The truth about the smart parts ion?

I have heard many mixed reviews about the ion and I was wondering what the truth was. I have heard a lot of people say it's a piece of garbage and it is just cheap and a bad marker. On the other hand some people say it's a great gun for the price and it's a great gun for a beginning player or intermediate player. Could someone who has experience with the ion and other highend-midrange guns please tell me what they think about the ion because I have heard so many different things. Also how is the egg hopper? Will it be o.k for a beginner and it will be used with the ion. Thanks

The original Ion revolutionized paintball. It was the first true fully electropneumatic marker in that low of a pricerange. However, it is far from perfect. It uses a horrible feedneck, standard duckbill ASA, and the trigger is sloppy, badly designed, and cheap. The BIGGEST issue with them, however, was the design of the body/bolt. Because you had to take the ENTIRE marker apart to get to the bolt to do routine maintenance, breakage was EXTREMELY high. The newer XE, and other aftermarket bolt-out-back (BOB) bodies made fixes this. With the BOB upgrade, a Q-lock, any decent on/off ASA, a trigger, and a QEV, the Ion shoots VERY nicely. WHile it's still not the most efficient marker made, it isn't bad by any means. Most people that hate on BOB Ions only do so because it's Smart Parts, since many people despise Smart Parts for their rather poor business practices in paintball world.

In truth, a BOB Ion isn't bad at all. They're dependable, fast, smooth, easy to fix, and inexpensive. They're a FANTASTIC marker for anyone who wants something nice to go play with, but doesn't want to break the bank. They're also great for someone who wants to personalize their marker, as there is literally a TON of aftermarket junk for them (many of it useless, but that's secondary).

If you're looking for an inexpensive hopper, go with an EyeForce ($50 new) or a Invert Too ($60 new) over the Egg. Not that much more expensive, and MANY, MANY, MANY times better both of them.

So a stock ion is not a good marker? I am getting a really good deal on a stock ion, egg hopper and hpa tank. I plan on upgrading the marker/hopper as soon as I get some more money or someone offers me a good deal on a nice marker. Would this be a good plan?

what is a "good deal" because to make an ion worth actually owning, you'll need a bolt out back body, and those are not cheap.

So I'm guessing that a marq 7 would be a large upgrade from an ion right?

Definitely go for the Marq 7 if you have a good HPA tank, a good hopper and most importantly a good mask. Thats really important.

yes, what you put into your gun, is what you get out. paintball is skill, not marker stats. but, a good marker that is reliable and preforms well doesnt hurt at all.

This is true as long as the marker you use is maintained and cleaned properly thats what i think is important. the marq7 does get good ratings i guess its what u really want and what u can afford. just stating my opinion carry on
