you can get a victor II for $60.
just save up the extra money, youll spend more money in the long run if you buy a crappy gun package. or you could buy used...

spyders r good, but can break easily. try to save a little more for a tippy 98c. lots of parts, and indestructible!

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the PMI Pirhana yet. But I agree with the last post, the best starter gun is the Tippmann 98C (or even the A-5 if you have the money). Although I would buy a PMI gun before I bought a Spyder (and I would know, I have a Shutter). Really though, as long as you take decent care of your gun by cleaning it after its used, oiling the o-rings, don't crawl through the mud, don't put it underwater, etc.., you should be fine with just about anything you buy (excluding Brass Eagle stuff of course).

^^^i was just about to suggest the pirahna
i got the old package when i first started. It had a pirahna bl gt, mask, co2, hopper, and a barrel plug. the new ones come with i think its a gti(please correct me if im wrong) plus all that stuff and a squeege. i got mine on sale just after chrismas for 110, really good deal. the ones they have out now i think are about 135-150.
the pirahnas are really good quality, basic starter guns. very upgradable, they can use uprgrades from both pirahna, and most spyders. ive been using mine for woodsball for about 4 years now, no major problems. the only thing i had trouble with is that i blow o-rings alot, but i think that has more to do with how i take off the tank and less to do with the gun. slow trigger, your not gonna be able to walk it, but since your doing mostly rec/woodsball, thats not a big deal.
ive got no prob with tippys or spyders, ive used both, but i still like my fishy

im seriously gonna try to be nice about this. im not gonna yell or flame. I know u have an a5.. so ur a tippy>spyder kinda guy... ur opinion is very biased, and COMPLETLY wrong. Have u ever owned a spyder? to break them, u have to have negative knowledge about paintball, and basically to berak it u have to try to break it. if someone is that stupid.. then pay an extra 60 bux and get a tippy

You could probably find a used package of low to mid range spyders off ebay for 80.

Do it the other way instead... Buy the mask and other stuff U need and rent the marker. And then go to e-bay and find yourself a used trracer or mavrick. Get a spring kit, some polish and some oil and Ull be playing along fine for some time.
Then if U decide to play more get a SEMI or a better Pump. But the most important part that U carry around isn't the marker its the mask. A good comforable mask with good vision and good hearing and a good squeegie will give U more of an edge then a 80-100$ marker.

they only thing i could c buying for under 80 dollers is a old used mech spyder. then u would have to buy a used tank for like 10 dollers and a used mask for like 20 or so.

[/sarcasm]
Seriously just apply simple logic, what kinda hopper would carry that many balls?
