WGP Karnivor

Well I'm sitting up here in insanely cold Canada with nothing better to do so I figure I'll review some of my markers...

(You can check the pic in my Sig, however...new ones will have to wait until I figure out where I put my stupid xD card reader since for some godforsaken reason the cable port on the Camera no longer works)

Worr Games Products Karnivor was my first new Autococker in a long time and spurred a horrific frenzy to purchase more and more autocockers :P

Anyway onward to the review:

First Impressions/Aesthetics: While this is purely up to the reader to decide, I found that the milling and annodizing on this marker was first rate. The ridged matte finish contrasted with the glossy smooth annodized surface creates a nice visual appearance even with only a single color (black in this case). Attention to detail is quite high, the area that once encompased the beavertail now has a waivy tail like extrusion, the stock trigger has a pretty nifty fang like cut in the middle of it. The ridges along the top that create a scale like motif is awesome, and other little things like Karnivor written across the solenoid housing complete the appearance. Also I find that the lack of externally visible cocking rod, no beavertail, and 15 degree Vertical ASA make for a visually much more moderanized view of the venerable cocker.

The On/Off ASA that is on most WGP guns I haven't liked for some time now, and the steel braided house between the ASA and Inline reg I disliked as well since I find the look of macroline more appealing, this has little to do with performance, just aesthetic apperance however and is completely subjective.

Initial Setup/Performance: Out of the box the gun chopped like mad, but this was quickly remedied by adjusting the tickler reg (more on that later). After tuning in properly and setting for indoor (260fps) I proceeded to fire over the chrono and if memory serves initially had about a +/- 6 FPS using Draxxus Midnight paint, and the stock Kaner Barrel, coupled with a 68/4500 Crossfire HP screw on air system. Stock barrel accuracy was good overall but does not fire through breaks to well. I suffered first day 3 breaks (during play) w/eyes on using a Reloader B, however the paint was fairly dark shelled which might have attributed to that.

Trigger is easily adjustable in both magnetic feedback as well as trigger return distance with a simple allen wrench as is true with all E-Bladed markers.

Velocity for the most part can be adjusted by tuning the inline regulator, however making large adjustments can be a pain due to the lack of easily removable cocking rod.

Having used Palmer's Rock/Microrock over the years I am a tad bit dissapointed in the Tickler Reg, which seems to require more adjustment than the 2 previously mentioned, and the knob seems a bit to easy to move around. However for the same reasons, it is very easy to adjust :P

Ergonomics: The Karnivor is possibly the most comfortable gun I have ever shot. Its very lightweight possibly the lightest Cocker and one one of the lightest markers period I have shot (minus the freestyle). This includes my turtle'd Osiris, however I have never weighed the two so I can't say with absolute certainty on that. The E-Grips (I don't have the newer WGP ones), and 15 degree inline feel completely natural. Kick is non-existant and holding on target is disgustingly easy.

Maintenance: Breaking the gun down is fairly straightforward and painless, if you've owned an Electronic cocker you know what your getting into. After each day of play I do however spend the better part of an hour or more attempting to clean the many small crevices created with the milling. Removing the solenoid for greasing (rare as that is) is simple and straightforward as perscribed by the E-Blade manual. in 20+ cases of paint I have suffered no catastrophic problems.

Upgrades/Recommended Changes: Barrel kit is a must, some earlier Karnivors come with a complete Kaner Kit, (and I believe the pro-edition still does) which is perfectly fine. I went with a CCM (same as Stiffi pretty much) however thats an entirely different story. There is nothing else I honestly believe needs to be changed however things I did change were:
Samurai Trigger (heard good things and its served me well, however I may go back to stock, time will tell)
CP Inline Reg, CP On/Off ASA, Macroline.
Eclipse Nexus Ram w/QEVs (Not really a big change feels smoother but maybe thats 65$s talking)
I would like a reg with Allen Wrench adjustment instead of the tickler but I do like the appearance of the tickler so.. ;/
Some people have had problems with the aluminum pump arm, I have not however.
I'd get the Upgrade board to convert the board anway from E1 to E2 when its released that is.

Conclusion: Even stock the Karnivor is a top performing marker that can hang with just about any marker in existance today. Its not the fastest, however it is extremely comfortable (for me anyway), it upgrades well, and is very consistent. While there are certainly some minor things to gripe about, there are no serious weaknesses in any of the components, and all are certainly up to the task of a tournament quality marker.
For those of you who hate cockers, theres not much here that will change your mind, unless your main gripe is apperance or weight.

Personally I've had better experience with the Shocktech FGP, Eclipse Nexus, and Palmer Rock/Micro Rock, but there isn't anything really wrong with the tickler it just seems to require more adjustment than others. If you like the look and don't mind messing with it every once in awhile by all means get it.
