Promaster...
Tell me stuff about the promaster, I've heard a lot about it, but I haven't heard how it shoots, it's speed, weight, all that good stuff. I'm thinking about getting one and maybe selling my ion, is this a good idea? Is the promaster a reliable gun? Easy to work on? Would I have to upgrade it a lot to get it shooting awesome? Is it expensive?

She's light (2.1lbs w/ everything) and i love the frame and the trigger is pretty nice. The regs are so-so and the whole design is very compact. It is fast, efficancy isn't anything to brag about.
So of the guns had regulator problems (like mine, stupid reg piston) and others were missing some allen keys (most importantly the 7/64ths clamshell one)
I sure hope someone else comes in here b/c i havn't used mine much.

One of my friends has one and I have used it a couple times. It's pretty light, and feels great. The stock feedneck and barrel aren't all that great, but most people replace those anyways. The anno is pretty decent (friend has a red one), but his bolt pin is starting to scratch.
The trigger is pretty nice for stock, and you can adjust it however you like it. It's pretty easy to change the modes, but it's kind of a pain to replace the battery since you have to take off the clamshell. Speaking of the clam shell...the trigger frame is pretty comfy. You have to take a lot of screws out to take off the trigger frame though (pretty sure its 4).
The efficiency isn't too great, but Mark (my friend with the promaster) was telling me about a guy on PBN that did a mod to his to get 1700 shots off a 72/4500 fill. It's a little on the loud side, but oh well. That's with the stock barrel too though.
Overall, it's a pretty decent gun. A lot better than the Ion. It's faster, made better with higher quality parts, lighter (not by too much, but is still lighter), and with just a few upgrades, can be awesome. Well worth the price.
Just remembered. The stock feedneck is a pain to get off. ICD used some really strong stuff to keep that thing in place. I put his in a table vise) actually started to crunch the feedneck (just the part that holds the hopper, thinner part), and had to grab both ends of the body, and turn. And with the stock regulator (with his at least), he had to remove the trigger frame to take it off because the the 90 degree fitting. You could remove the 90*, but he didn't want to scratch the anno so he just took off the trigger frame.

yeah, i just about scratched my frame w/ the air fitting. But one more turn in on it and it clears it just fine now. The clamshell is the most complex and annoying thing on the gun. W/ 4 screws on the frame, and then 2(or 4 if u want to take the whole thing off) attaching it to the gun itself.

If you're going to buy one new I would just buy a used stock ego, they're around 600-650 if you're lucky, and there are a lot of parts you'll want to replace on the promaster. So it will add up to about the price of an ego, maybe less, but then you still have the performance of an ego. ICD is known for ****ty stock regs, barrels, and feednecks, occasionally triggers too.

No no no no......... Stay with getting the promaster... it is a very good idea....
Very Fast, Light, and the only problems i could see with the stock one is the Regulator (Get a CP Shorty), Feedneck (Awkward Size... So heat it up with heating gun and twist off with rubber wrench and but blue loctite on threads of new feedneck.) Barrel isnt such a problem in comparison to other stock barrels so a new kit is a must with most guns... Efficiency is not a great feature but thats alright....
Very good gun no upgrades than one listed are needed..... (ASA is not an upgrade cause there isnt one... -_- )
EDIT: 390 for gun, 50 for reg, 30 for feedneck..... and however much you want to spend on barrel kit

wouldn't it be nice to lose the dipswitches? Wouldn't it be nice to have debounce, adjustable eye delay, lots of modes, adjustable ramp start points and caps? It might have a lighter switch too.

No good reg is 50 bucks, most CPs will cost you 65 least. Then of course there's the feedneck, barrel, asa, trigger, LPR, and board. So when you add all that you're getting damn close to the price of a used ego, which comes with a good board, good trigger, good feedneck, good barrel, good asa, good LPR, and basically everything you'd need, not to mention the best trigger setup available for a paintball gun.
Or if you wanna go cheaper you could get a used freestyle with HE for 350 with decent ups.

Check the nation, it won't have mad ups or anything but you can for sure get one for 700, 600 would take a little searching and it might have a scratch or two, but they're there.

Well I ended up paying a total of 430, if you include the price of the barrel kit which I already owned for my cocker and my Palmers reg which I already owned for my cocker, 320 for the PM, freestyle clamping feedneck, and freestyle asa.. I couldn't be happier with it.. I'm not quite to the point of spending 600 on a marker, and other than the reg (which I've heard they've fixed the stock reg problems) the feedneck, and the asa, I really can't see anything to upgrade on this marker.. Comes with a humphres noid, which is just an awesome noid.. I say PM all the way.
