I think they were made 1993-1997?
They came out after they phased out the unpopular ICD Promaster from 1990-1993.
Nobody remembers the Promaster, but the Kingman Spyder was a DIRECT CLONE of the Promaster.
Anyway, I'm not sure, but if you give your seriel number to ICD (via there website) I'm sure they would tell you exactly when it was made. In fact, they actually still service the alley/puma/desert fox line of guns.
Both the VM and Z1s had dual setups before the ICD guns, but that doesnt matter. They were all-round high-quality guns. They were marketed toward the tournament croud, but by 1994, it was already saturated with Mags and Cockers.
Actually, the mid 90s was a tough year for guns. Lots of smaller companies died out.

If you still have the marker you should consider getting a new barrel for it. The stock ones were not really good (surprised?). I have a Puma and still use it. The ICD markers are just about bullet proof. The Alley Cat is the same thing as the Thunder Cat. The Alley Cat was made exclusively for National Paintball Supplies while the Thunder Cat was sold to anyone else. I'm not really sure that you can call them the lower end of the Puma line because I don't think they overlapped during manufacture. The Alley Cat/ Thunder Cat was sort of a hybrid between the Puma (which had a similar 2 ASA set up except the foreword ASA was truly vertical that could also be mounted horizontal like a VM68) and the Bobcat, which had a non repositionable foreward ASA. Though, was set up for only a 45-degree bottle. The Desert Fox was, at the time, the high-end marker that was a blow foreword design (like an automag). I think that part of their down fall was the lack of customization that could be done to the markers. Aside from a .45 grip, raised sight rail or a new barrel there wasn't much that you could do with them. Which brings me in a round about way to the ASA set up on the Alley Cat. It really wasn't meant to be used with two tanks. The different ASAs were so that the user could choose how they wanted their tank mounted (they originally came with an ASA plug to use in the second ASA). That said, I have used two tanks at the same time before and it just made the marker extra heavy, not to mention difficult to remove the tanks with out an on/off. It's a nifty little marker with a good rate of fire. Enjoy the bargain. Oh yeah, the Alley Cat / Thunder Cat markers went into production some time in 1997 I think. Definately no earlier than 1996

They were officially released as a replacement for the original VTS line in May 1996.
They were much cheaper in price, but not quality. The lower price reflected a better streamlining of production that required much less hand-work.
The goal of ICD was to compete with the Spyder which was starting to dominate the low-end market.
Despite competing with the Spyder, it was one of the best blowbacks ever made. Well machined. The valve layout was a nice hybrid design. It utilized a sheridan-valve, like Spyders and Cockers, but it was vertical, not horizontal. This allow them to use a SINGLE hammer/bolt, so it could be called an "inline sheridan".
The only other gun to use this system was the electro ZAP ZXS-500/600e (which was total crap).

Damn. You really know your paintball stuff there HP. I stand corrected and I guess I shouldn't try and remember 8 years ago since I can barely remember what I did yesterday. Actually now that you mention it I remember that when I bought a Palmer barrel for the Puma in October of 1996, Palmer was making them for the Thunder Cat (yes, I understand the threading is the same). I got the Puma over the Spyder after doing some research and finding quality issues with the Spyder. It really was too bad that these never caught on.

You guys make me feel old. My family pitched in to buy me that gun right before I went to boot camp and only got to use it a couple of times since then. I finally found a group I may be able to play with (maybe) so I started looking up info on it.
Here is some info on it (found on a Google search):
http://www.icdpaintball.com/Support/...pport-puma.htm
Eight years later, spending time on a ship in Alaska and always being near the coast in one way or another it still looks like new. Hopefully I will finally get around to using it again soon.

Rebuild Kit
Anyone know where I might be able to purchase a rebuild kit for the Alley Cat? I recently picked one up off of Ebay for practically nothing. When I got it I tried it out and it worked fine. I stripped it down and lubed it, and now I have a leak down the barrel? I'm new to paintball so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's in excellent condition, I would hate to just get rid of it.
