ion reg screw question!

okay so i played with my ion a couple days ago. I've played with it tons of times. But when i was taking the red apart, the top set screw broke. it broke at the part where the allen wrench goes but the rest of the screw is still stuck in there. but i went and cleaned and lubed it and stuff and then aired it up and it wasn't leaking or anything so i'm just wondering what the screw is there for and if anything can go wrong since half of it's missing? thanks!

the top allen screw holds the spring platform in and keeps it from un-screwing. If you couild pull your spring platform out and didn't have to take out that set screw, than you have a problem. Your reg will always be changing pressures on you, and you run a risk of blowing your noid if your spring platform is not held down solid. (because the tension on your reg spring is now changing constantly)

you'll have to tap the screw and get it out. Go get a tap and die kit from ace hardware or something, or have a professional do it.

The best way to avoid this is to NEVER use the wrong size allen key. and NEVER!!!! buy cheap allen keys from the wal-mart $1.00 bin. Buy good allen keys with a known name on them (craftsman, stanley, gm-goodwrench, you get the picture) Good tools will save you a lot of grief.

Or you could just spend $50 and put a new reg on it. Your choice there...

You could just send it to Smart Parts and use another reg in the mean time...

hmm yeah. I shot a couple shots and the pressure didn't change so i suppose it could be after a lot of shots? Do you know of any online store that sells the stock reg body? like what all the internals go into but not th internals. Just the body?
