Help on Ion Pro

I haven't played paintball in almost 6-7 years, and even then, I never really got to deep into the sport. I've decided to get back into the sport and just ordered an Ion Pro. Right now, I have 2 CO2 tanks, but from reading forums, it sounds like HPA is the way to go. My question is if CO2 is harmful to the gun if used? I plan on getting a HPA tank eventually, but if CO2 is a major no no, then I will order a HPA tank asap.

EDIT: ok, just read another thread that said CO2 is bad, so I went ahead and ordered a 48/3000 tank. Do most places that fill CO2 (Academy Sports, Dick's Sporting Goods, etc.) fill these types of tanks as well or will I have to go to an actuall field to get it filled.

you have to go to a field to to get an air tank filled.

You might wanna send that ion pro back and get an ion; it's a waste of money on things you really could get a better deal on elsewhere.

if you've already purchased it, dont worry about the ion pro.

As for the hpa tank, you have to go to a local field for a fill, but many scuba shops also have the capability, and will usually only charge you a couple bucks.

I called around today and found a SCUBA store that will fill my HPA tank. I really wish I could have gotten a larger HPA tank (got a 48/3000) but I still need to get a good hopper.

Halo B, everything else is overpriced/not needed for an ion, or cheap and not good (in my opinion).

So my Ion came in today and I got to check it out for a bit. I added the aluminum valve grip, clamping feedneck, anmd UFD aluminum body. It also came with a Black On/Off Unimount, but I am a bit unsure as to how to put this one on. I know that the macro line goes into the side of the unimount, but when I try to unscrew the macro line from the stock bottom line, it wont come off. I dont want to break the think if it isnt supposed to come off. Also, does the Ion only turn on when gas is attatched to the gun. I put the battery in and just tried pressing the button to see if it worked and it wont do anything. I am guessing it wont turn on without gas to prevent any dry firing.

actually, you should be able to turn on your ion weather aired up or not... try to press and hold the button for a second or two and see if the light will come on.

you cannot feel the button depress, therefore, many people assume it's not going in and they begin to use their nails or even get to the point they get frustrated and open the whole thing up... try to avoid this if you've not taken the marker apart yet, as using your nails will destroy the button and taking it apart can damage the internals if you do it improperly...

if after pushing the button down for a second the marker still doesn't turn on, try another battery. because of how touchy the ion is i find myself putting in new batteries every time something is not working the exact way it's supposed to...

if after this you still cannot bring your new marker to life, check to see if the wiring harness is connected properly... it's not often, but i've seen the wires pop out before they ever even get to the shop. if there is a problem with the wires, see if you can contact your store owner or where you got if from and try to exchange it for a new ion...

most likely they will say that smart parts will have to fix the problem and just ask them for contact information...

also, you do not unscrew macroline, it should be pulled directly out as if you were pulling a plug from your bathtub. just push down on the ring around the base of the macroline, then pull the macroline straight out. (it is a safety feature that the line will not come out unless this ring is depressed, so do not try to pull the line out without doing this - as you will just get frustrated.)

the unimount is a tricky beast to attach. You have to unscrew the silver macroline fitting from the unimount, then take out the small allen keyed screws holding the central assembly in place. Then you attach the screws that came with the unimount to the frame of your gun, put the central assembly back in, and tightly screw the macroline fitting back into place on the unimount. You may wish to cover the threads of the unimount with teflon tape, just to make sure you keep a tight seal there.

Thanks for the info. I tried to unscrew the macroline fitting off the stock unimount, but that thing is on there super tight. I didn't want to end up breaking it, so I am going to hold off and wait till I get to a field in March. Hopefully my HPA tank will arrive tomorrow, so i can actually just try out the gun to make sure it works.

^^^

yeah, you have to use a small wrench. After a while, you may dent some of the metal in the macroline fitting, but as long as none of the cuts are too deep, you'll be ok.

Thanks. Again, just to be on the safe side. I am going to wait till I get to a field to do this, just so i don'tdo any serious damage. I am going to instal the new trigger tommorow though.

one more question though. What fire mode is the ion defaulted to when you buy it?

Oh and I think I read that when i first gas up the gun I should have the velocity all the way down and then turn it up. is this corrct?
