Spyder for RecBall
Some friends and I have set up a small speedball course which we play on, as well as the woods that we play CTF and the like in. It's a pretty even split, playing woodsball or speedball.
I want to get my own marker, rather than borrowing my friends extra one all the time. I don't like the look of the Tippman 98 so that's out, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. So I was thinking either a TL-X or an Imagine.
All my friends have mech markers, so they could think I had an unfair advantage with an electric one, but that doens't really bother me, they'd deal with it.
The price jump seems like it'd be more than just the $30 or so difference between them, as the Imagine has only a 9.5" barrel so I'd get a new one with the purchase. Unless the stock Imagine barrel is any good?
Is starting with an electric that much harder for a newb that you wouldn't recommend it?
Thanks.

the Spyder Imagine is a good entry-level marker and it works well in woodsball and speedball

imagine is definitly a better deal then TL-X. That electric frame costs $80-100 new, so big savings for u there. Spyder barrels...are okay, they do a decent job, but a better barrel can give a much more predictable flight to the ball. Good ones can be had for cheap to, $40 for a J & J ceramic 1 piece.
the frame is the ONLY difference between mech and electric spyders.

Yes, an Imagine is a very good beginner gun. As with many guns, the stock barrel on the imagine is crap. I would suggest getting a new barrel, like a J&J Ceramic 14 inch, or a SP Proggressive 14 inch. Those can be found cheaply, and are very good barrels. Another good barrel is the CP 1 piece, this barrel costs about 10 dollars more than the J&J, but is also a very good beginner barrel.
No, starting with an electro wont be that much harder at all. You will just have to remember to recharge your batteries when they get low, and you should be fine. Also, I dont beleive that the Imagine grip frame is waterproof, so try not to dive into mudpuddles with it. Other than that it is the same as any other spyder, so just take care of it, and it will work fine.

I own a TL-X and do good with it, both in speedball and woodsball. An imagine is a good gun too, but you'll be forced to buy a electro hopper if you don't want to chop alot, which is really more expensive. If you're on a low budget, I suggest you to buy a TL-X. If you got more money, get an Imagine, with an electro hopper and a drop forward...

Drop forwards are a matter of personal feel. You can shoot an imagine at least as fast as the TL-X without any chop problems. And if you feel the need for an electric hopper, score a used VL Revvy for about $25.

I own an Imagine but don't woodsball with it. I can definetly tell where the water could seep in. You might want to check into new grips if it's really wet where you'll be playing, but if your not that paranoid about it don't. I don't know if the dye stickies are all that waterproof. I would get an electric hopper first and then a new barrel, the J&J ceramic.

i know torch has literally submerged his board in his sink. Still worked, so they can take the water, but being safe never hurt a thing.

Yea, but it was turned off at the time and afterwards I took the battery out and let it dry. Water is a really horrid conductor; unless you're really abusing the grip frame it should be able to take it.

ya i started with an imagine and its treatin me quite nicely. just a new barrel and an electro hopper will really help you out. other than that you wont need too many upgrades, just save up for HPA and a new gun.
