According to NPPL rules, it is legal, because it shoots once for every trigger pull and it has two contact points... But the paintball world doesn't revolve around NPPL.

Rule of thumb with electro spyders: Go with whatever looks best in your opinion. With higher end spyders, the external scheme changes, while the internals all remain the same. If you really like the concept of the rocking trigger, go with the electra. Otherwise, it's basically a glorified Imagine, and it's about $100 more.
Edit: IONs are very good markers for their price, it's just... everyone has one. Get one if your heart is really set on being just like half the other people on the field.

Ions are not for people starting out, their high end guns.

Even if you've never shot a paintball in your life, if you get an Ion, you're instantly a pro. Your head will swell to twice its normal size the first time you gas it up, and you'll gloat over all your success because you got a low-end Smart Parts. Congrats, enjoy your plastic gun.
Edit: We're way off-topic, this now belongs in the "Smart Parts" section.

Let's not turn this into an ion flame war.
But if you have the money for an ion, why not go for it? It will easily out perform a spyder.

If you have the money for it and will properly maintain it, I say go for it. (why does everyone say ION and not just Ion)

Ion's need proper maintence. You don't turn into a pro by owning an Ion. You become a pro by gaining skills. It's you, not the gun.
Nuff said.

I would not buy an ion for a first gun. I'd sitck with nothing "higher" than an imagine. why you ask? because the imagine is cheap and is the best spyder for the money you pay. do you really feel liek paying $150+ for looks and rocking trigger?(that's not legal in all tournies) that's the question you gotta ask.
Don't worry if your marker doens't look pimp or awesome, it's just your first gun. you can always worry about looks when you get a higher end gun that you'll be more proud of. Save your money and get an imagine
