I personally own a Fenix...waste of money. It's no better than the Imagine other than it has a regulator (imagine has an expansion chamber), and a cheap clamping feedneck.
Just get an imagine and save your money for paint, field fees, other upgrades for your gun etc.
I have a freak on mine...not the best, but it's decent. On a Spyder though, I wouldn't spend too much upgrading it. On my first gun I have a Smart Parts teardrop and it was a good barrel for the price.

I own a Fenix and it kicks butt!! It is alot better than an Imagine.... you must have a defective marker.... or something..... The Freak is one of the best barrels made... calling it decent is a slap to the face of Smart Parts. I have a Freak and 5 other SP barrels including the Teradrop which is a very good barrel. IMO the Fenix is a very good blowback marker and I highly recomend it. I have been using mine for the last 2 seasons here and it has been performing perfect.

You do realize that the only differences between the Imagine and Fenix is that the Fenix comes stock with a clamping feedneck, a regulator (that is slanted 10*...the reg is a pile as well...don't say it's not broken in...after 15+ cases...it's plenty broken in), and looks, right? Oh, Imgaine is internal cocking as well...not top like the Fenix.
New imagines are lighter than the Fenix as well. Don't tell me they aren't because I have held my fenix in one hand and one of my friends imagines in the other...Imagine is noticeably lighter.
They both shoot the same speed, operate at the same pressure, have a ton of kick, and are loud...internally, they are exactly the same (other than style of bolt).
Plus, I never said the Freak wasn't good...but it's people like you that make newer players think it's the best barrel ever made...it's not.
You could buy an Imagine for 110 (half the price of the fenix) and you will have the same performance...just different looks. With the money you saved, you could buy upgrades for it (I would only reccomend a barrel...upping a spyder is pretty pointless), and/or paint/field fees.

You said the Freak was decent, I said it is one of the best barrels you can get..... You obviously hate Spyders because all you did was bash the fenix in your review. You just called it a peice of s@#t because it is a Spyder. If you dont like Spyders then thats you, you give a new player the wrong message calling it s@#t because you dont like Spyders. Uping a Spyder isnt pointless IMO....remember its like 90% player and %10 marker... give a noob an angel... is he the best?????? NO!

dude, calm down, Fenix is right. Pretty much all spyders are essentially the same gun. In no way is he calling the fenix a bad gun, he is just stating the fact that for the same price of a fenix, you could easily purchase a lower level spyder and upgrade it to save money, and get the same performance.

I have a spyder you idiot. Where did I say the fenix was ****? All I said is that it's twice the price of an imagine, for a couple extra parts that aren't much better than the ones on the Imagine.
Upping a spyder a lot is pretty pointless. Put a new trigger frame, board, bolt, reg, front block, valve, shimp kit, barrel, feedneck, asa...it's still a Spyder...a gun that has a ton of kick, is loud, and isn't accurate at high rates of fire. I upped my fenix a little, but not much. You you wan't to spend $1000 on a blowback...that's your choice. Most newer players won't spend much at first, so they won't upgrade it much, but for an experienced player, a 1000$ spyder is ridiculous. You an buy used dm4s, protos, angels for that much (actually quite a bit less...like 400 less).
A spyder is still a spyder. They are great beginner guns, but aren't very good for competitive paintball. Yea, the gun doesn't make the player, but when you have a gun that has a ton of kick which in turn messes up your accuracy at high rates of fire...you won't be playing as good as you would be if you were using a non blowback gun, such as a timmy.
Spyders/tippmanns/spyder clones are GREAT beginners guns. Some are cheap, they are all easy to maintain, and they are good for rec ball. For competitive paintball, you will want something that performs better.
BTW: yea, I don't like spyders much, but that's because I like high performance guns. Spyders are far from high performance unless you spend over 1000 bucks on them, and unless you make it a spimmy...they have no where near the performance of more expensive guns. That's why you can get spyders so cheap.

can you even put 1000 into a spyder? idk that seems kind of hard unless you just keep replacing parts 3x over

Ha, I'm sure you could...might have to buy the most expensive parts and replace every stock part on the gun...but I think it's possible. Pointless? Oh yea.

The freak is one of the worst barrel kits available. The QC on that thing is usually pretty bad. The inserts are never the size they are supposed to be.
You already know my feelings on the rest of what you said in that post....
Spyders are EXACTLY THE SAME internally(excluding the EM1, which you probably have never even heard of). They all have pretty much the same hammer hitting the same style valve to propel the ball. They are all open bolt. The more expensive ones come with "better" parts on them that are usually crap. The regulators are some of the worst available.

You can get a Fenix used for like $150..... and spending like 100-200$ in upgrades isnt that bad... in my opinion. Im not mad.... if you like more expensive markers then thats you. You mention for performance...yeah in speedball a blowback would have a small disadvantage as the kick it gives, but if you play woodsball or rec ball its fine. Its all your preference. I hope I didnt come off as being an A-Hole...that wasnt my intent.... I apologize for acting like a Jackass.....I just see people sometimes call blowbacks garbage just cuz they are blowbacks.... I know the difference between blowbacks and Electro-pneumatic markers...its all in your preference.....
