New to paintball and I need a few questions answered....

I recently bought a 06' Spyder Xtra with a delrin bolt as well as a Smartparts Progressive Barrel, and Empire Twister barrel.

What are some good upgrades for this gun from what I have now?
What does a delrin bolt do for the gun?
Which of these 2 barrels is better?
What kind of paintballs should I use in the better barrel?

don't get anything else. Spyders are money holes because only new players want them and the new players don't frequent b/s/t sections in forums.

a delrin bolt will reduce the kick in your marker as well as the pressure that it operates.
I'd keep both barrels since you already have them. Test them with each new batch of paint you buy and use whichever works best.

As for buying paint, dont' buy anything under $40 a case cuz it's gonna suck. Definatly stay away from monster ball or anything else a major store sells. you have no idea how fresh it is and it usually is the worst paint you'll ever see.(in general, I'm not saying there's no expections)

^^Right. Keep your money to play more and become a good player. Upgrades won't do much difference on spyders. Save for later, and when you'll be better, you'll know what you want, and your xtra will still be a nice backup.

The best way to find out about field paint is to ask people who play there. Or just look at what most people buy. Experienced paintballers can be stupid, but they aren't stupid enough to put bad paint through their thousand dollar guns. You don't need to buy highest grade tourney paint out there though.

As for upgrades, it looks like your good to go. A new barrel is really all you "need" on a spyder. You should be focusing on improving your skills at this point.

On the subject of paint, I would actually advice you not to spend a whole lot. The more expensive paints are often designed to shot through high end guns; these guns are meant to handle brittle paint so it's more likely the balls will always break on the target. Shooting such paint through a low-end gun could cause you to chop, as they tend to be rather rough on the paint, particularly blowbacks.

Find a decent "Recreational" grade paint, such paint is designed to be a bit more robust and not break in your gun. Depending on the field, brand, etc., it should be somewhere around $35-55.

I have good luck with some cheap paints in my Spyders but every time I try to shoot Brass Eagle paint it chops. I now use Nelson's Hot Spot. The really good thing about this paint is I can find it at Fleet Farm (store like Tractor Supply Co) for $25 a case. It has a tough shell but still breaks on target as long as its not supper lose cloths. If you are going to use a lower end paint you should look at a halfway good hopper like an Egg2 or 3 ($60) or a Fasta ($90).
