Which Spyder Marker Questios (very detailed information)

Ok, first off, these are great forums. I have been reading for over two weeks deciding on what equipment/marker to purchase as my first marker of my own to buy. I have always rented up to this point.

First, I am a casual player for sure. I play some in random areas, but mostly in out one local park. Here are what I am looking for in a marker:
  • Accuracy. I need a gun that consistently shoots straight and true.
  • Lightweight. I don't need it to be extremely light, but enough I can comfortably run and maneuver well.
  • Runs on CO2. Non-negotiable must-have. The park has HPA, but I will be playing other places and there isn't anywhere else to fill up with HPA.
  • Speed not essential. I play mostly with lots of stealth and running and not as much shooting. I don't need an extremely fast marker.
  • Reliable. I don't want a gun needing constant repair and chronic upkeep. Just basic upkeep and maintenance.
  • Easy to upkeep. Sort of goes along with the last one, but I want to be able to take it apart and clean it myself easily.

So with that list, I have come up with the Electra 08 with Eye, Pilot 08 with Eye, and the VS1. I am on a fairly tight budget and like the VS1 because of that. However, is it a worthy upgrade to the pilot or electra and why.

Also, is an anti-siphon tank absolutely necessary for the vs1? I know it is for the other two. I have everything in my cart at ActionVillage for a complete package and I also want any input on cost-effective upgrades or additions to what I have here that keep it cheap. The total of my cart right now is $275 with the VS1 marker.

J & J Spyder 14in. Ceramic Barrel
Black VS1 Marker
Smart Parts anti-siphon CO2 20 oz. tank
Barrel Condom
Squeegee
Viewloader 200ct. hopper (I know, crap hopper until I can upgrade)
V-Force Pro-vantage goggles

Thanks in advance for any input on this guys.

If you have any other similar costing markers that you would suggest over those listed, you can let me know, but I think these are the ones I am looking at mostly.

The J&J caramic is an excellent choice for a barrel, will shoot out chops like nothing
The VS1 is a great little marker, it will serve you well
None of those need the anti-siphon, you can save money and not get it.
Barrel condom is a good idea, plugs can be shot out
look into the VL Eye-Force
You should look into a good pair of goggles, nothing ruins a day more than an uncomfortable pair of goggles that won't stop fogging over.

And I can mod the VS1 to get amazing efficiency, just check me sig

Thanks to a fellow Texan for the input.

All the product descriptions I read for the Electra and the Pilot state that the markers need an anti-siphon CO2 in order to run properly. Is that just a CYA statement they put in there? Also, thanks for the loader sugestion. I will consider that.

You say I need a good mask which I completely agree with. I have definitely been victim of playing with fogged up masks that wouldn't come clean or unfog. I have read good reviews on that mask, but are there other suggestions that are better for less than $50 for sure.

Azn speaks truth.

Anti-syphon is just a safety measure. As long as you don't shoot downwards and keep your tank slightly angled when shooting straight (and given you're a casual player that shoots slow and doesn't shoot much) no liquid CO2 will enter the marker, so you should be fine without the anti-syphon. But often in woodsball, with terrains that have hills and cliffs, shooting down can't be avoided so liquid CO2 could enter the marker, something the anti-syphon would help prevent, so there's something to consider.

Great to know. I didn't want to pay the extra nd I was wondering with as little as I shoot (comparatively) if it was that big of a deal. Wild terrain isn't too much of a problem since I do live in the Texas panhandle. Flattest place on Earth I think.

OK, I have now settled on a better mask (the V-force Profiler). Sadly, I don't have anywhere to try on masks, so this is coming from online reviews and opinions. I am planning on upgrading to the VL Eye-force at a later time probably. I am sure I will find myself wanting one eventually. So the only question now is whether or not to upgrade to the pilot. Any pros/cons as to whether or not I should go with the pilot over the VS1?

The pilot wuth eyes, the electra with eyes, and the VS1 are all the same internally. The only difference in them is the way they look asthetically.
I would just go for the cheapest one, since they will all shoot the same.

And best of all, all three of those markers can take all of my mods (cough cough ~ineedmoneybad~ cough)

If you do get the vs1, look into a maddog clamping feed neck Ion Threaded. It will lower the profile from the stock feed neck and hold better. And just remember, you can only shoot as fast as the hoppers going to get those balls in the chamber. Not saying your going to go nuts, but you never know when you need to send a wall of paint in someone's direction. The vs1 is very capable of it with the right hopper. I'd go for vs1, mask, a decent hopper, feedneck, and barrel. I'm running a remote line instead of anti-siphon. Tank sits upright on my back.

I wouldn't get an Ion threaded feedneck for the VS1...

CCM makes a feedneck specificly for the VS series with VS series threading, which to my knowledge, is different from the Ion threading.

And the anti-siphon or remote is personal preference, some like the anti-siphon, some like the remote.

You probably are correct. I just had always read that an Ion threaded feedneck would work fine for the vs1. And I bought a maddog Ion threaded feedneck and it went in perfect for me. But I agree, if there is a product specifically designed to work with the vs1 he should use that. Btw, can you post a link to it? Is it a low profile feedneck aswell?
