Fed up with my Pilot

I'm really fed up with this Spyder Pilot ACS. Nothing I have tried will fix it. Oiled the bearings. Replaced the O-ring on the striker. Replaced the striker buffer. Held the spring on the hammer down for 3 hours. Twice on separate occasions. Checked all screws, charged the battery fully.

It still acts like it is out of air, but the sound sounds faster than it should. I tried different springs, everything. What else could be wrong?

I am so lost. Then I have problems with my E-99 and my Viewloader High Voltage (leak at front grip), but I won't get into those.

It won't cock back. It makes the BRRRT sound like its out of air, but it's not out. The sound also sounds faster than it should. I checked the sear. No wear.

It won't cock back at all?
Sounds like your grip frame is loose, or maybe the sear is too low to catch the hammer.

I also have a third Idea. Make sure your air tank is using a high pressure output regulator. Any other pressure besides that will cause issues like these.

Less I cock it back manually. Grip frame isn't loose, tightened that a couple of days ago. I don't think the sear could be too low, because when I shoot it, the striker barely even bounces back. Not enough for it to catch.

Is the regulator built into the gun? I'm using CO2, I use the field tanks at the place I go (compressed air). How can I check/adjust it? As you can see, I'm new to fixing markers. Never really had any problems before.

Have you loosened the springs at all? You may need to tighten those up a bit. I haven't worked on a Spyder since the early 2000's so I may not be of too much help...

Try tightening them back up, that may be the issue...

if you're using rental tanks, it should be fine.

It may be time to give kingman a call, and see what they can come up with. I'm a bit perplexed

get a new battery.. Even though it may be fully charged, it may be not holding enough voltage. Sounds like you have done everything else you should do.

How would low volatage, even if it is lower than the standard 9.6v, effect the way the striker catches and cock back? I have extra Spyder batteries lying around, not java ones though.

If it's not putting out the required voltage, than it may not be supplying it with enough amps to cock properly every time. Try changing the battery.

its not the battery, snow must be hitting the crack pipe tonight or something. batteries job is to release the sear and as long as it is at least attempting that first shot it is clearly doing that. battery has no play at all on weather or not the marker re-cocks

heres a whole list for you to check

first of all i would replace the spring. more often than not in a spyder or stbb they have an issue with the spring being too loose and not too tight even if you have cranked down on the velocity adjustment. a weak spring will cause the marker to not supply the paintball with enough air and also not supply enough air for the hammer to reach all the way back to the sear. if the spring is too strong then the first shot would fire fine at normal velocity and more likely higher than normal but i have rarely ever seen a spring so strong that the marker would not cock. for that to happen it would have to resist over 800 psi of air pushing against the hammer

slide the bolt alone back and forth in the breach, make sure nothing like your detents or a bur of metal is catching it and slowing it down

pull your valve body out of the body and make sure the valve itself has a smooth operation. I have seen it where a valve body is damaged preventing the valve from opening or closing properly which resulted in an issue like yours. also make sure the valve body is in the marker the correct way (large hole pointing forward)

check your sear for a smooth action up and down. although unlikely from what you described if the sear is having issues returning upwards it may cause this.

while i am not positive all spyders have this, most have a small hole that goes from the lower tube towards the grip frame. it is there to allow the gasses that re-cock the marker out once the marker is re-cocked. check to make sure this is not clogged with anything that would prevent the gasses from escaping like they should.

make sure your bolt pin in not catching anything in its travel.

try another tank if you have one kicking around, one that you know works on your other marker(s)

check all that and get back to me.

edit: one question, what did you lube it with?

This is a common occurrence. I guess I'm just used to electro pneumatics, and I'm dealing with Montezuma's Revenge. Don't drink the water in Guatemala...

It's strange when soda and alcohol are both safer to drink than water...

The beers were roughly $3/drink, and the water was $2.75ish so might as well drink!

Well, I was getting sick of trying to fix it myself. I appreciate all the help you guys gave. I took it to the shop and it was something with the buffer and O-ring. He didn't explain it very well. $25 well spent. Better than ever. Time to get my E-99 and High Voltage working again!
