My Spyder Rodeo -- Upgrading and such
I just recently got into paintball so I don't wanna dump a TON of money into it. Well, actually I used to be into paintball and I owned a Spyder then so I figured I'd give them a whirl once more.
What upgrades should I make? I don't want to go too overboard. I just want to make my gun shoot better. More accurate...stuff like that. Is the DYE Boomstick barrel worth it? Should I even bother? I currently have the stock barrel and a Smart Parts 14" Progressive barrel.
I know everyone raves about getting an HPA system and that is in my future...but do I need to make any upgrades to accomodate that HPA upgrade? Why are those so expensive? I have 2 20oz Co2 tanks....what's so different about those from the HPA's?
Please keep in mind, I'm not a hardcore paintballer but I do like to play for recreation with friends and such. I don't plan on getting on any teams or anything like that. I just want to have some fun.
So......what do I need to do?
Oh yeah, THANKS!

Barrel, Regulator, and HPA.
Looks like you got a decent barrel already, just get a reg and it'll help with your consistency. Since you dont want to get HPA, anti siphon your tank and you''ll be fine.

No, I do want to get HPA but I just won't be dropping the dollars any time soon, you know?
What's a regulator?
Also, what is anti-siphoning or whatever?

co2 in its gas form is safe for your gun, but in liquid form it'll mess up orings and do bad stuff... anti siphon just keeps the liquid out. its $5 and $10 to install, cheap upgrade.
Regulator is a.... regulator. it regulates the air and keeps it consistent, which give you better accuracy. Price for decent regs range from $50-100

Kingman, if you havnt known already, makes the crappiest stock parts for their guns. Trust me, the reg on the rodeo along with the expansion chamber is next to nothing.

Cool. Thanks. I'll invest in a new regulator. Does that usually come with expansion chamber? I'll also anti-siphon my tanks.
Any recommendations on the regulator?
What other stock parts should I think about replacing? The trigger on the gun is kinda stiff........think maybe it just needs oil?

Oil would not help, do a trigger mod.
Regulators and Expansion chambers do not come as one, their two different things.
Good regs that work good with co2 are Bob long torpedo and Palmer stabilizer. the bob long goes from 0-600psi, which a spyder cant shoot at stock. Do some simple mods like polishing yur internals then you can use it.

LOL....uh....you're going over my head.....sorry...I'm a n00b.
So...what do I do to make the gun shoot at 600 psi? Is that even "legal" in paintball? That's pretty fast, right?
By "polishing yur internals" does that mean take the gun apart and clean it?
Also, how do I do a trigger mod?

I must object. I own a rodeo, and I had the same pre-concieved notion that you have -- however the stock rodeo regulator actually works very well. I have had no shootdown going 13bps with my Hyperframe. I have had very regular velocities within 3-5 fps over 10 shots using hpa. I am very impressed with the rodeo as it is out of the box it is a very good marker. ITs no Intimidator, but it does very well for what its designed. Runs on HPA or CO2 well, and it looks pretty good too.
If you do decide to upgrade the regulator however, you will need to get a new assault block and asa as these are not interchangeable with aftermarket parts.
My advice is to get a better bolt (Spudnuk'l or tigershark) and a HPA system (68/3000 steel tanks go for like $80.00 and are a good start.) You have a good barrel with the one you have, DYE boomsticks are great but if you don't have teh cash for hpa, you wont have $100 for the boomstick either.
You will like the rodeo -- play abunch of games with it and you will see.

Thanks. I replaced the bolt in my old Spyder too. I'll probably do the same with this one...upgrade to HPA a little later....maybe add a boomstick down the road.
