will a regulator(thinking palmers) screw into the frame or do i have to get an adapter. I have to still get a bottom line and asa and was wondering what the difference is between a macro line and braded and which would be better.
I hope that makes sense.

Yes it will, as long as there is a vertical air adapter on the gun. Which there should be if it's a Spyder Compact 2000. Basically, as long as you can take a CO2 tank and screw it in vertically to the gun, you can put the regulator in.

As for macroline verse braided, it depends on your preference. Are you running CO2 or HPA? If you are running CO2, go with steel braided. If you use CO2 with macroline, it can (and will) burst. Macroline is easier to use, and is cheaper, but not as permanent. Use macroline with HPA or if you plan on removing your regulator a lot.

One tricky thing about most (maybe all) Spyders is that is uses a mix of different threadings. If I remember right, the ASA is 1/8 NPT threaded which is the standard most paintball fittings and hoses use. Screwed into the ASA adapter is a 1/8" NPT - metric or standard (I can't remember which) adapter. The hose that is on the spyder won't work with the Palmer reg or any other standard fittings, it's threading is too coarse. You mentioned that you would need to buy a bottom line.... doesn't the compact come with one? If it does just remobe the thread adapter and use either a new SS hose or macrolines since you can't use the spyder one.

It's more pricey then using macroline, but a good combination to use would be steel braided hose with a quick disconnect. This gives you the simplicity of breaking down a gun using macroline without worrying about the potential leaks caused by repeatidly (sp?) removing the macroline or screw in connectors. Once macroline has been removed several times there are usually marks on the ends from the clamps which often cause leaks. It's also a pain to keep wrapping SS fittings which is usually required each time to prevent leaks. If you aren't planning to be removing the gas through grip/expansion chamber/regulator much you would probably be fine using the cheapest/easiest method.... Macroline. Like Jinjiro said though, be careful not to get any liquid CO2 into the line. (Also make sure that the tube is all the way in the fittings each time before you charge it with gas.

The compact 2000 doesnt come stock with a bottom line so he doesnt have to worry about the hose threads.

It will screw right into your VA and will fit fine. IMO macroline is a lot easier to dealwith because you dont have to order the right length, or get special fittings to make it removable. I have only had one hose break on me and that was because it was an LP hose and wasnt meant for the pressure I was running through it.
