Can't Figure Out Why......

I have a relatively old spyder compact that does not fire properly. As long as there is a ball in the tube to shoot, the gun works fine. But whenever balls dont feed right and there is no ball in the tube, the gun sputters and uncocks. Like when your air tank in empty, but it does it on full tanks.

I cant figure out why and any help would be appreciated.

that is really odd! Wow, I have never heard of that happening. Its like it has its own eye's or something, chuckle to yourself (instead of lol). Sounds liek there is a leak somewhere. Or that there is no blow back w/o a ball inside the chamber and it causes the sputtering. It sounds odd, but it might be it. ???

Theres got to be some reason for it, and therefore a way to fix.

I guess it dont matter that much. With a rev hopper it shouldn't happen often. But it's just annoying.

At least its just a back up.

it's a design flaw. the gun requires some back pressure past the blot to recock (the ball provides this). get a fast hopper and there will be no more problem.

One easy but slightly risky way to fix it is to verly slightly increase the size of the notch on the valve pin. Don't lengthen it, make it deeper. This will allow more air to hit the striker to move it back. Go slow and keep checking it until it gets rid of the problem. But first make sure you aren't using a standard O-ring on the striker. I think they are a bit too small compared to the red one to make an air tight fit. Unless the gas is leaking you have a very gas efficient marker since a minimum of air is being used to cycle it. Are you running at a lower pressure?

Have to agree with Javaman; has to be a lack of back-pressure, low enough to not allow the marker to re-cock. That's the only thing I can think of.

PS: come to think of it, might it have to do with the vertical adaptor?? try Otter's mods maybe??

And PM Fiki about polishing your internals. I'm sure he'll love to hear from you.

i would try a stock blot mod and delrin removal on the bolt. this will cause for higher flow. i'm not real familar with oldsckool spyders so this may impair my judgement on this type of problem.

The problem with increasing the flow through the bolt is that it will probably slightly increase the problem. Less resistance in the bolt means less back pressure. What velocity are the PBs shooting at? Kingman's ball velocity usually has to be very low in order for there to be recocking issues.
