Velocity Problems
My nephew got a new Imagine 04 for Christmas, and he’s thrilled. Trouble is, we can’t seem to keep the velocity adjustment up near 280 fps. Tried everything suggested in the manual and on the Kingman web site (which isn’t much) to adjust the velocity. But, even with the adjustment screw all the way in, we’re only getting about 235 fps.
Just to be sure, we pulled the marker apart, cleaned and oiled the internals and reassembled everything, but no change. I’ve also swapped C02 bottles with no improvement.
Poor kid is getting frustrated as we had just the opposite problem with his brother’s marker (had a hard time staying under 300 fps), but were finally able to get the velocity under control. (though with this cold weather we’ve been having, I’m not sure if we’ll encounter more problems once it warms up)
Any suggestions? Is there another pressure adjustment that I’m missing?
TIA,
Jamie

Its cold outside man. Co2 and cold=trouble, it doesn't like the cold. This will cuase co2 to not give enough pressure resulting in low fps. Go inside, let the tank warm, then shoot the gun. U should be getting a good fps now.
For ur brother w/ the gun shoting hot u might want to clip the spring or buy a spring kit and use a lighter main spring.

if it wont go any higher then i would suggest a main spring
if you go to your local paintball store they will have what your looking for
i believe there might be another spring in the box the gun came in but i could be wrong
hopes this helps

Thanks, Bobide
We tried keeping the bottle (and the marker) warm. Sadly, that has zero effect on the situation with either marker. With both cases, we kept the markers inside for at least an hour. (average indoor temp. was 74'F)
I do thank you for the suggestion, but still looking for answers.

Spring kit then.. use a stiff mainspring and a softer valve spring.. that should bring the FPS up.. Also look for areas of gas restriction. Look at your macro or ss hose to see if there are any kinks. Check where they are attached to see if there is teflon tape in the orrifice or any other blockages. Make sure the ASA and Pin valve on the tank are clear of obstructions as well.
If that doesn't help, then its time to call Kingman and ask them. Don't e-mail them, call them, or you will never get an answer.
Hope that helps.

actually spring kits are like 9.95 and they come with three different strnegths of springs for main, valve, and other internal springs. Don't mess with the others just replace the main one, i used to mediumd strength, most likely you will be required to cut it slightly to hit field limits but it is definately worth it.

Try swapping springs between the guns if they are compatible. With one shooting too high and the other too low, you may luck out. Apart from everyone's good advice about keeping the tanks warm (another good trick is to use those "hunter's handwarmer packs wrapped around the tank, just don't let it get too hot which shouldn't be a problem if they are occasionally shooting) another thing you could try is to increase the spring tension in the low shooting gun by placing a couple small opjects in the velocity adjuster well. Maybe a couple of BBs or something would work in helping the velocity pin push the spring guide (metal/plastic pin) forward further until you can get a stronger spring.
