Spyder Blowback problem
Hey. I've been having some blowback problems with my '03 Spyder Imagine that's causing the balls to break in the hopper, so I took it outside today without the hopper and loaded the balls in manually. I put two in so one was in the chamber and one was in the feed neck, fired, and repeated again and again.
At first, the second ball either didn't even come out of the feed neck, or it just barely popped out. As I kept firing, however, the height that the ball in the feed neck shot out to increased, and eventually reached over 20 feet in the air before I stopped.
When I took the co2 out of the gun, waited a few seconds, and put it back in, the second ball once again just barely jumped out of the feed neck, and again the height increased with each shot fired.
Can someone help me figure out what the heck is happening with my gun and how to fix it?

so your saying when you don't have a hopper on and you have to balls in the marker that it shoots the second one out the top. Thats normal.
if they are breaking in your hopper how old is the paint?

No, he's saying that with each shot the 2nd ball shoots higher and higher out of the feedneck, which is quite odd.

The paint has a nice fit in the feed neck and chamber, not tight or anything.

this is pretty common the ball coming out the top without a hopper on it. Since the spyder is a blowback it tends to have the air blow back to cock the hammer to the sear. The pressure sometimes sends a burst of air UP the feedneck causing a ball to hop out if there is no hopper. Now if you have ahopper on there this won't be a problem generally till you get down to your last few balls. even then they are in a contained space and will come back down. There are FEW solutions some very complicated some just easy.
first get a hopper. Grav fed or even a revolution or egg. Second you can perform a mod on the gun that takes some time effort and smarts but I don't know if it is worth it. I can not think of the name of the mod or how it is done I need fiki or one of the more experienced guys to explain it again but basically you can use tubing to control where that gas goes. IT SHOULD NOT be a problem when you have a hopper on it. SO I wouldn't worry to much.

I know that it is common for the balls to be forced back up the feed neck by the extra air because of the spyder's blowback operation, but what is strange about my situation is that at the beginning, the balls barely come out of the feed neck. But with each shot they come out farther and farther, and after about 50 shots, they reach over 20 feet in the air (catching them is like catching a pop fly in baseball).
At that velocity, with the hopper on, they'd hit the inside of the hopper and shatter.
I have a gravity hopper and a Reloader, but after a paintball game with the gravity hopper on, the inside of it and all the balls were completely coated with paint, so much so that the balls were stuck together and wouldn't move. I was testing the gun without a hopper to see with how much force the balls are forced back up the feed neck.
Does anyone know why the amount of blowback is increasing with each shot and how to stop it?

right on onssickpup. if there is no hole in the feedneck the air is going to go straight up. You can pretty much drill it any size you want cuz it doesn't matter much. I'd go about 1/16 inch drill bit size. And you need only to drill it inot one side;I suppose if you're really worried you could drill two holes or something.

Something very strange is going on with your gun then. Markers are designed to be fairly consistant and that should translate into consistancy with blowback. Do you have a chrono to test if your FPS are increasing as well? Maybe you are syphoning liquid into the gun as you shoot later balls?

Ok, I got an update on this blowback situation. Yesterday it was around 60 degrees outside, and when I took my shot my Imagine with the Reloader on it I had no hopper breaks and everything was fine.
So, it seems like my gun gets tons of blowback when it's cold out, but it's fine in warmer weather.

How are you feeding air to your gun? It still sounds almost like you are syphoning liquid CO2 from the tank.

Im thinking a few things... it sounds like your getting more and more air into your gun each shot you take (duh)... so this is prob cause by your valve, or striker or something related to the opening of the chamber.. i suggest callin up kingman, trying to get a new valve or something.. make sure you explain that with the tech support, because theyll just wanna jump right to telling you its normal for a ball to pop up.. anyway thats my thinking.. seems logical to me... need any more help i can be contacted thru aim paintball62754

My best simi-educated with experance says that because in the cold weather the CO2 dosent want to expand as much so I'm guessing that when you were shooting little or no frost and as you keped on shooting the frost factor comming out of your barrel keped going up. While that is going up perhaps the paintball was flying higher with more frost comming out of your barrel? If that is the case then it's probly just the cold weather. I could see it being a problem, I should go conferm this some cold day.
