ok so last night I was running thru the house and tripped on the furnace grating in the hallway ripping off the toenail. It bled profusely and was numb at this point with the toenail dangling by a chunk of meat. So I went to the bathroom sink and ripped it off and cut a big dangling piece of meat off the end of my toe with scissors...more bleeding ensued. Couldnt find a bandaid so I wrapped it in a wet rag and taped it on my foot using packaging tape. Went to couch and waited for the nausea to pass. Once that was over the feeling started to return accompanied by excruciating pain. So I finally found a single solitary baind aid and applied it to the wound. It soaked thru in a manner of seconds so I left it on there and wrapped it in toilet paper, scotch taped that on there put a sock on it and went to bed. But sleep was difficult due to the feeling being returned to my toe and my leg was throbbing from the knee down in the most god awful pain you could imagine.

tl;dr Dont let this happen to you.

oh and to make matters worse my daughter stepped on it this morning in her clogs within seconds of me getting out of bed...I screamed as though I had been shot in the testicles with a nail gun.

I poured peroxide all over it this morning and then Kat got me her hidden stash of band aids and wrapped it up in 3 of them. Prolly should change the dressing soon. Ive been wearing steel toed boots all day since my daughter stepped on it. I was in boots within minutes after that happened.

I did that back in August with my big toe. It'll grow back yellow. Then a new toe will form. It's fun after the pain's over.

Aww man I just changed the dressing and when i took the boot off the whole toe of the sock was soaked in blood. So I peroxided it again and new band aids applied with neosporin. Feels pretty good right now. It sucked taking the band aid off tho, I cut it off and the part that covered the wound was stck to the wound so it was a little painful to get off but not too bad.

As for the guy that wants to see it progressively grow out again, Im not sure it will. The ripped out nail was about twice as long as the other nails were so I assume the rest of it was originally under the skin (you cant imagine how bad this hurt when the feeling returned) I wouldnt be surprised to discover that the root had been ripped out and no nail will return, but we'll see.

Seriously, just keep cleaning it with warm water and soap. Change the dressing oftern and look out for signs of infection.
