Hmm...I could have sworn that people hailed this internet provider for its lack of pop ups and spyware Gosh, who would have seen this coming?

It seems to me though that you have spyware programs embedded in your hard drive that summon popups and more spyware and junk...not a pretty site. All I can really tell you if Spybot and Adaware arent working is to look for folders and programs in the 'add/remove' programs section that look shady, or were put there without your consent. Then google the name of the program and find instructions on how to get it out of there. Most of the time, deleting it is not enough, as the programs will make backups in your registry and then re-copy themselves after they are deleted.

If its something like Bargain Buddy, or Ezula, you're gonna have a fun time getting your o/s back to normal

IMO, if you have IE with Service Pack 2, you wont encounter many problems, so long as you dont go cruising for pr0n or keygen hacks and crap like that. I run a spyware scan once a week and I may have maybe 20 tracking cookies.

Good luck

You can get spyware and adware from downloading things too. People do not write spyware and adware scripts for firefox.

Internet provider? You mean browser?

No matter what browser you use, if you're a dumbass you'll get spyware. If you aren't the only person who uses your computer it's probably a never ending battle.

Personally on a computer that I'm the only user, I've never gotten spyware since it's been mine. On our other computer we get it all the time because we have 4 users.

Yeah, probably. We had a problem a few weeks ago due to either my brother or my mom. Norton wasn't deleting for some reason so I manually deleted it all and everything has been fine since then. It's annoying when you're the person who uses the computer the most often and someone else messes it up.

S&D is not a very good spyware removing tool... it only searches for about 22,000 different kinds.

www.webroot.com

get the free trial of spysweeper, it scans the programs running in memory, your registry, and your hard drive. it also scans for nearly 100,000 different spyware and adware programs also deletes tracking cookies and has all kinds of shields, like it doesnt allow your homepage to change without your consent, lets you choose what programs run on your computer at startup, what programs access the internet, etc etc... and you can keep certain programs too if you want, like cydoor peer-to-peer dependency. its considered spyware, but required for kazaa and kazaa lite to run.

window washer is a pretty nice tool too. the free trials on both of these are only 14 days, but i think, not 100% sure, you can get another one if you have another email address. and since email accounts are free...
