I build ****
So lately I've been in the mood for modifications and customizations to all my stuff. I've always had a knack for taking something and turning it into something else, but now I've got a leet idea.
My ipod broke.. well most of it did. The circuitboard is for the most part in tact, the clickwheel is good, and hard drive is fine.
So.. I had the idea of taking a 300 gig hard drive ($89) and hooking it up to the ipod mini, and putting it all in a .50 ammo can.. I'd use a Compact flash-IDE adapter to do it (found the cable I need). I know how to format the harddrive to accept the ipod firmware already...
Probably going to use a cheapo 250 watt power supply. I'd like to mount 100 watt speakers internally, but I dont think they will fit. I can always get desktop speakers and just screw them into the side, but it wont be loud like I want this i-radiothingy to be.
there will be USB and AC jacks on the back. Clickwheel and broken LCD will be on the side.
So all I need to do is limewire a ****load of music, and I have a 10"x5"x6" radio with just about any song you would want to listen to.
I was thinking of using a built in battery instead of the power supply to conserve space. Theoreticly I could use my ipod's lion battery and use non-powered speakers.
Of course, I'm a modularity freak, so I'd have RCA out, a couple 1/4" out, maybe even some 1/4" and RCA in too.

Honestly, can you even get anywhere close to filling 300 gigs worth of space with music? Sounds like a waste to me.

sounds pretty cool. i prefer bearshare light, seems like more sources than limewire. i only have around 900 songs but i like em all because i dont wanna just put crap on there. definately good luck though man, that sounds really tight, pics definately.

I know for sure I probably wont even be able to fill 100gig let alone 300. I think 20 or 30 is more realistic, but when I get a 300 for only $90, why not.
Like my paintball markers, I'll probably spread out the construction due to budget issues.
