Unions
I need some pros and cons to Unions. I'm debating them, and I'm against Unions. I've got some nice arguments, but I could always use some more. Articles and sources would be awesome.

see gm to see what unions can do.
I'm not saying they're entirely bad and that they take the sole responsibility of what happened.
unions were created to give people fair paying jobs and it works. But they are also abused by demanding more and more from thier company.
it creates a "us against them" thinking whne dealing with thier employer. they seem to always be demanding more and the "mindless" employees in the union have no choice but to agree and be yes men.
basically I hate unions. my town is ran by the union. nothing can be build from anyone out of state or places go on strike. it's horrible.

unions suck. they ruin capitalism
unions are the reason you cant fire teachers who suck ass at their jobs and fail to teach thousands of students over the course of their careers

well i dont know any pros or cons about them (off the top of my head) but you will want both so then you can write a pro of unions down and already be prepared to counter whatever they say. Knowing what they are going to say is always a plus.

unions increase labor costs for the manufacturer by both decreasing productivity and increasing wages. This means that the price of the goods produced increases and/or the investment in expanded facilities decreases(less profits means less investment).
The increased price of goods can lead to less people buying them which can then lead to layoffs which can then lead to a further decrease in demand, creating a recession or even depression.
The lack of investment can lead to less new jobs, and well thats self explanatory.
Most of the major Pro's have been touched upon or are pretty obvious. Personally, I dont believe that unions are completly evil(though they are corrupt, so are big bussinesses). I believe that a balance must be achieved between unions and businesses so that both the economy and human rights will flourish.
edit: another con-
US labor unions increase labor costs which contributes to outsourcing which hurts those the unions were created to aid-the working classes.

Unions rock.
They let the little guy actually have some say in the matter, keeping the big boss on a leash. This country is built on labor and the formation of them. Without them, bosses could fire anyone for no reason at all. Guarentee, if any of you ever start working at a blue collar job, you will probably join a union.

Trade/labor unions are the only good unions. Sh*t like teachers union and public transportation unions blow
Here in philly are public transport union goes on strike every 3 months. Which grabs the city by the balls and tugs...

Unions are nothing but small communist labor divisions.
Sure, the principle seems great, and at first you can't help but get suckered in. But just like communism, the union leaders usually get corrupt and sell out their own people.

I'll take flak for this from someone (other than the 2 notable commies andy and that other guy who stalks him) but unions over-represent labor and don't accurately weigh in the cost (or their responsibilities that having a say in the business means you should know what it takes to run one and maybe help out some time...) of their demands on the business. After all, in order to have the job on the first place, you need to have the business supply it.
This is a big one right here.

well i can tell you a few good and bad things about being a labor union.
good:
- restricted my hours (stopped me from working like 8 hours on a weekday)
- only 28 hours a week until you're 18
- can't use heavy machinery
- can't use sharp objects
- the best has to be an automatic 25 cent raise from minimum wage. also every 6 months i used to get a 50 cent raise.
the bad:
- never knew any union reps
- never got a newsletter or anything until after i quit my job anyway
- had to pay high union dues
- even though the union provided alot for me, they never helped me. i wanted to file a grievance they never responded once. i payed them over 5$ a paycheck, probably about 100$ or so by the timei quit, and they did nothing for me.
- they wanted me to vote for the new union rep, yet i cant even vote anyway

read ja's negatives.. trust me, they dont help you. the only thing they are good for is job security, but even that is bull****. if you have to worry about losing your job all the time, either you suck at your job, or your company has bad management. either way, you shouldnt be working there
