The loss of sarcasm.
Has anyone noticed that it seems impossible for people to understand sarcasm on the internet? Be it *******, here, or pbn?
Does it bother you? Am I ranting? Should I be ranting?
post away.

For most people it is really hard. They simply have not grasped the ideas of context or paterns in speech. I don't find it hard, but I'll admit once in a while I don't catch somethings. You could also attribute much of this to the internet being an emotionless and "senseless" media.
When in contact with a person in real life you can experience them in multiple senses. For normal conversation you can at least see and hear them.
Then there is telephone. The minimum of two senses is now one: hearing. But at least over the phone you can gauge their tone of voice.
Finally we come to the internet. We are down to zero senses. You cannot actually see the person you are communicating with and you can't hear them, either (in a place like a forum...chat and IM are different). Most communication on the internet is done with text and text only. "Tone" and "voice" in literature are much more difficult things to grasp than simply hearing how a person is talking.
This is why sarcasm, for many people, is hard to pick up over the internet.

I dunno...I'm going to stick by saying this....
If you have a "hard" time picking up sarcasm over the internet, brush up on your reading comprehension. I'm not even a person who reads a lot of books and I didn't like english classes in school much, but having a pretty decent grasp on your langauge is a somewhat important ability.

zomg peeps posted in my thread.
Tony, I can see the practical resons why some people cannot grasp sarcasm over the internet. But, there are also thoes odd instances where everyone gets it, except for one guy, who decides he needs to "correct" you in your sarcasm.
now im blathering again...

But only when you type with correct grammar and punctuation.
No one uses the double negative . Two dodgies can be either exaggerating the said sentence, like this one here.
"Zomg lol that was kewl!1!111
  "
Most people simply accept that he means two dodgies to emphasize the sarcasm on the typed message. What people should realize is that the second can make it sarcasm towards the first comment, therefore negating any sarcasm that was based on or around the typed message.
