Phishing/Fishing
Anyone ever gotten one of these things? My mom received a notification supposedly from Starbucks, she called to ask them about and they could'nt confirm it and they said they were working with the feds to find out whomever put this out.
We also got another one that was supposedly from Amazon.com saying that we had pre-ordered the new World of Warcraft expansion.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to steal your infromation like this before. Its actually kinda convincing looking add the little notification things.

Its common and retarded easy to do.
as much time as I spend online, I still say you should never do transactions online, if you can do them offline.
Its really the only way not to get screwed...

Not being an idiot is also another option to prevent these kinds of problems.

werd
most phishing is done in poorly written emails from princes of nigeria who need to wire you $400,000 for your $100 camera, and you send him back the $399,900 all he needs is your credit card info, social security # and copy of your drivers license.
yes, there are emails like that. and yes, people do fall for them

sorry, I have no sympathy for someone who can't pay attention to the sites into which they put their id/password. mine is saved so if I EVER have to put my id/pw in I make sure it says *******.com in the url. not that hard. then, when they get phished, people post bulletins like "I'm going to find out who hacked my ******* and beat their ass!" as if there was any actual "hacking" taking place
