Should the lounge be condensed?
We are currently putting together a list of ideas on how to improve the forum. One of the things that keeps coming up is condensing the lounge. Basically, getting rid of some of the sub-forums.
Say for example, combine the Video Gamer's Forum with Technology. Kill forum games. Maybe combine Music and Movies into one forum. What do you guys think?
The only major problem with this that I've noticed though, is in order to get rid of a forum or to combine them, all current and past posts would be deleted. It would be like starting those forums fresh. I don't think there is any way around it, unless the Vertical Scope guys know another way to do it.
Also, this thread is just about the normal lounge. We also have ideas in place for the Super Lounge (Supporters, Elite, Senior Members, ect), but that will be dealt with at another time.

I say yes.
To save the posts couldn't they be moved over to one the forums and then that one re-named then delete the empty forum.
Example: Move all of the threads in the movie forum to music then, delete the movie forum and rename music to movies and music.

I'm not sure if that will mess with the servers though. I know we aren't supposed to do mass prunes because it's very server intensive, and a mass move would be even more resource consuming. If I crash the server that not only our board is on, but many other boards, we'll definitely have a problem. I'll have to talk to Jim about it. We might have to shut the board down for a day or two in order to do it.

I think there is an option to delete the subforum but have the posts revert to the parent forum. I will look a little deeper into the options. It may mean that we just mass move the threads into the 'merged' forums. I will play with the idea and do some research tomorrow.

Is it harming anyone like this? I don't think it makes a difference. I visit an RC forum where everything is condensed and I dont like it much. Why would we condense it? Does it make PBF run faster? PbF runs great now, why mess with it?

I still think there should be a senior type of forum even if it's only occasionally used. Have the established/elite/senior forums condensed into one.

I say just the seniors get their own forum. Many of the Established are still immature and annoying. And just leave the Elite's out until they get to Senior.

Like I said, we aren't there yet. But if you really want to know what my idea was, then here:
I was thinking we should only have two Super-Lounge forums:
Supporter Forum: (Open to Premium Members, Lifetime Premium Members, and people the staff vote in.)
This means the supporters still get their own forum (because I don't believe it's fair for them to not have one after they went through the trouble of being accepted), but it also becomes the VIP forum for the premium members. I think it's a fair compromise.
Senior Members Forum: (Open to normal members after two years. Premium Members and Lifetime Premium Members after one year.)
This setup still allows for a long-time members forum like we've had, but it also makes buying the membership upgrades worth it (but not required).
We really need something like this. Right now there is no real incentive to buy the upgrade, making it almost as useless as the point system.

you know, the supporter forum used to get activity when it was a subforum of the lounge. that would be nice considering I come here via "http://www.paintballforum.com/lounge"

Why not a political forum.... You can't use the argument that it will cause flame wars becuase we've been having some EXCELLENT discussions lately (usually they blow themselves over by page 5 anyways)

I thought we were trying to get rid of some forums here?
