so, in my city a big past time is something called river runs. Basically you swim out at the mouth of the st clair river (tip of lake huron, canada/US border)and ya let the current take ya about 500 metres and ya get out under the Blue Water Bridges..
the dead centre of the pictre is where we jump in and you get out at the first bridge.
It's a big thing, all the youth and young 20 years olds do it and have been for years. You dont swim out too far since you need time to swim out before ya get into the more industrial area. It's really not unsafe at all if youre a decent swimmer. Ive done hundreds for a couple years now.
Lots of boats come through this river, like recreational and big freighters. the freighters are always in the middle and of no concern, but the pleasure crafts are a bit closer to the edges. But since every one swims there, most boats know to stay out a bit and give plenty of room and have an eye for swimmers, except this one..
me and two friends were in the water, talking. I look over and see a boat coming dead on at us 50 feet away.. We start yelling and waving, nothing, doesnt move.. people on shore are yelling.. finally we started swimming as hard as we could out of the way.. he starts turning into us (following the shore I guess) he flies by us, we coulda reached out and touched his boat.. SO ****ing close. I was out a bit further so I wasnt in as risky of a spot, but my one friend almost got smoked. They thread the needle between us and the shore. We started screaming and swearing at them, giving the finger. they look at us, dont slow down, dont stop, nothing, kept going. we were SO pissed..
we got outta the river and some people came up and were like holy **** you guys almost got hit.. we were walking back to my car, see the boat close to shore in a cove for a yacht club, which my one of my friends is a member of, so we punch his key in, get in and head over to the shore. the boats real close but we werent totally sure if it was them or not (it all happened so quick we didnt get a good look at the boat) we get down, they see us, hit their motor and start driving away. so we yell and tell em to get over here and talk to us, they just pinned it and ignored us and left. We were even more pissed..
so we went back to my friends house a couple kilometers away by the beach, got on his boat and went out in to the lake. We tracked down these peoples boat. came up. You shoulda seen the look on their faces. Tore them a ****ing new one. Just laid into the stupid assholes. Two old guys and a women. They were making excuses and ****. We werent having it. Just chewed em apart, saying they shouldnt be boating if they are gonna be so ****ing stupid. They try to apologize saying they didnt see us, so we demand why they didnt stop, see if we were okay, and why they took off when we tried to talk to them afterwards. Their talls were between their legs the whole time. They knew they ****ed up and were cowards, never in a million years did they think wed come up on a boat and tell them off.
**** I was pissed.
