i record guitar on my comp with the windows recorder. you just have to record 60 secs. of nothing, then go to then end of that 60 secs. and record again. now you have 2 minutes of rec. time. do this over and over til you have as much time as you need. then just go to the beginning of the track and record while you play

try here. Between download.com and google, if you can't find something, you don't deserve to have it anyway.

you won't get a virus from download.com. It's not some shoddy little kids hosting a site for you to DL stuff. it's ran by cnet and if the were hosting a virus they would lose a lot of business. Like most businesses, they cover their asses when they need to, in this case virus scanning everything that goes up to the public.

you need a whole system to do that

and downloads.com is run by CNet so you have absolutely nothing to worry about

a whole system? all he needs is to run the cord from his guitar into an 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and plug that into the line in or mic input on his sound card and he's pretty much done. If he wanted to get fancy he could run it through any kind of pre-amp mixer. Hell, my brother and recorded his bass onto my computer using a channel on my DJ mixer.

well my friend has this thing he got from guitar center that you plug your guitar into it, and just play and it will record. Then it has like a card that you take out and put in your computer i think, and you have proffecional quality recordings.

yeah, I know the thing you're talking about. You're friend has too much money.

The only real advantages to those things are, they make you sound like a better musician than you actually are. Which normally turns around and bites you in the ass if you end up playing live for somebody important(i.e. hot slut, or label exec).

Oh yeah, the kid obviously doesn't want to spend that much money, if any, so buying that would defeat the purpose. But I guess he'd have a nice toy to play with in the end.
