i'll probably remember what i was doing and where i was on that day forever. something i'll tell my kids and grandkids.

if i would have been eighteen when that happened, i probably would have signed up for the military right there. i was so pissed off. pry be serving in iraq or something right now.

also kinda made me understand what countries in the middle east and other places go through every day. it's crazy stuff.

I think 9/11 should be made a federal holiday. I mean if NYY gets offended by this next statement, then oh well. I have back to skool night on 9/11. some pride!!

Even in little new jersey, we were extremely shaken up, 3000 of our neighbors were killed for no direct reason but to kill americans. Sorry but i think that it is important that we remember.

Secondly, incase you didnt realize, it was after people bought out all of the flags from all of the stores that the companies started to make more. i dont know about the west coast of the US or down south or away from here, but after the first few weeks of 9/11, it was absolutely impossible to find a flag at a store. THAT is why companies started making more, our local home depot was giving flags out for free. So before you start pointing fingers, or say people took advantage of a profitable situation, take a look at some pictures of new york, new jersey, penn. washington, the whole east coast, after the first few months of sept 11, and you will not see one without a flag in front of a house, or on a car, or on a book bag. Ever heard of patriotism?

yea down in here in SD flags were sold out. Man I woke up to 9/11. It was like 6:30 on the west coast, it was my freshman year of high school. I remember it pretty well. I woke up and my mom said somethin about it and I walk down stairs to my big screen TV and see one of the towers smoking. At the time I was thinkin that some dumbass crashed a plane (not like a jumbo jet but a personal/private plane) into the tower. I ate breakfast and when I was done, the tower collapsed. Then I got in the car on the way to school and on the radio the second tower collapse. Then i got to school and everyone was talkin about it, cept some people.

I got to my 1st period english class and some people didnt even kno what the hell was goin on. We watched the news for like half of my first period class.

I remember the Sunday before it happened. I went to the Chargers game, they were playin the redskins. The chargers pwned them, 30-3, and spirits in San diego was high. I remember hearing on the radio "man that was a great game!!!" and everyone was in good spirits. Then 2 days later 9/11 happened.

Well...I was in 8th grade as well, and that day at lunch I had NO idea what was going on. The cafeteria was so loud, if you screamed you wouldnt be able to hear yourself. I asked a kid what was happening and all I heard was "...twin towers..." then I was like ummkay...

Later that day, my mom picked me from school in fear of something happening to us. (Dunno why)

We watched the news, and then I rode over to my friends house, and we watched the news some more.

The next day, I had knee surgery, which is kind of weird to think about, "I had knee surgery 1 day after 9/11"

The way I look at the whole situation: It was the Pearl Harbor of our generation. Like AzNRiCeOwNz said, before the 11th, everyone was in good spirits, just like the day the Japanese attacked. I believe the Redskins were playing that day too.

It was my sophomore year in college, and I woke up around 9 or so. My normal routine that year was to turn on CNN for about an hour before I went to my 11 am class. I pretty much saw what happened then, stood there in my shorts wondering what the hell was really going on. I called my mom, who had been up since 6, and she told me about the Pentagon too. That whole day I just kind of lumbered around like everyone else at this school in total shock.

Now, I for one, am not a so called "bandwagon patriot". I have always been proud to claim myself as an American, LONG before it wasn't popular. But I do have to say that it's pretty sorry on Americans part that they let a pack of wound up extremists take over several planes and do this, armed with nothing more than box cutters. I mean...for God's sake, those break more easily than an egg dropped from a 10 story building. 5-6 guys could have easilly overtaken the terrorists and subdued them IMHO.

A Colonel in the Air Force invented a formula for tactical advantage in a fighter aircraft called the OODA loop, meaning Observe, Orient, Decision, Action. The terrorists got inside America's loop, and acted. Now the lesson from this for all future generations is to always be alert. History throughout the world has never been too peaceful...it's just the way the world is. We're all animals when we get down to it, with animal instincts, with that: teritorialism. 9/11 forced America to wake up to the real world, and act. Sure we're at war, it's never good, but like the song goes: "Fires that aren't put out become infernos".

Watch the movie "Red Dawn" sometime and see how you feel afterwards. That's a great example of what would happen if America was ever faced with such a time.

y should it be made a federal holiday? the oaklahoma federal building bomning was not made a federal holiday, pearl harbor was not made a holiday. sure, more people died, but it should not be a holiday. live ur lives as normal, its just another day. bad things have happened on everyday of the year in the past, and they r not holidays. my point is, remember what happened, but don't let it disrupt ur everyday activities, thats the wrong attitude

we shouldnt be depressed or anything, i just think that moments of silent, and taking some toime to remember what happened is appropriate.

it should not be made a holiday because people will use that day to go on vacation and stuff

and yea, many people dont remember things in our history that we should. on june 6th, no one at school or on tv talks about the normandy invasion, where thousands of american soldiers died, barely anyone recognized dec. 7, its really a shame. thats why i think wwII history should be introduced to kids in school alot earlier, its important that they understand how the world was 50 years ago, and that there is still hatred, and that hatred can turn into millions of people being killed.

What does make me mad though is that so many foreign countries despise us because we're "cocky" and "arrogant" and "stuck up". Biggest examples...the French. Wow, hypocritical? Hmm....the only reason any of these countries think this is because of our political policies on SOME things. Only a SMALL fraction of people are snooty like that and whatnot. While the percentages are probably rising, I'm pretty sure they're still small. As far as I know rural area in the US far outnumbers the area of cities in the US. Most of the people I've ever met from a small town or out in the country are some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. Unfortunetely the country people most often get looked at as "rednecks" when they are probably some of the better people around. Canada has cities...I'm sure some of the people in those cities are snobby and stuck up also. Britian has cities...I'm sure some of them are too. France has cities, Germany has cities, Japan has cities, and any developed city in the world has cities. All of those countries also have rural area...it's harder to find someone who's full of themselves and blatantly rude out in the country than it is in a city. In my opinion (which I don't feel is too far from the truth) the nice people in America outnumber the ****ty ones.

Sorry that I'm saying my word on this a little late and this was touched on like....on the first page but I just thought I'd get my opinion out there.

I remember, I was in school, in Art class. My teacher used to put the radio on for us cuz she was kool like that. All of a sudden we heard a news flash come on and were like oh change it we want music, but before we got to it It said how a plane flew into the South Tower. Kids were pourin out of my school leavin with their parents and such. The HS was let out early. (I was in 8th grade). My dad saw the smoke from his job, and a lot of his friends(he works for a town) went there to help out. He lost some of them too. Mostly Firefighters. He said it was crazy. I could see the smoke kinda from my house, not much though. It was bad. I know some people who were lost. It was a bad time... and I really hope we take them all out. I don't care what people say, "Oh it's not right" **** them.

A person that lived in a town next to me was on the flight that tried to go to Camp David. He was a big guy, and he and some other guys revolted, and tried to take the plane back over. They were the reason it crashed in the middle of no where.

Crazy.

Smalls - Exactly, that's why I love livin 10 miles out of town...lot more peaceful. But even where I live it's getting too crowded. I'd actually like living by farms...that way I could work for neighbors and make some pretty good money. Hay, cleaning stuff, feeding...easy stuff. Haha, If I moved like 10 miles farther south I'd be right by a bunch of them. But some of the people in Alepena (where my parents grew up and most of my family lives) they are some of the nicest people you'd ever meet. Yet people at school don't like Alpena cuz it's a bunch of "hicks." Sad.

But I remember when it happened the school tried to hide it from us like they didn't want us to know what happened. That's pretty low if you ask me. I was a freshman and they were STILL worried about what we saw? That's horrible. I remember my brother was in 7th grade and he had no idea it even happened till we got home...

in my school they didnt tell us anything, at the end, they said that parents that work in new york might come home later than usual because of traffic, but i figured it was a pipe main break or a bridge or tunnel problem. I really got mad at my school, i had a good day, and i was cheerful and happy, and to think that i did all that while people were dying and suffering really pissed me off.

Wow, I can't believe it has been two years. I can distinctly remember seeing the second plane hit and the towers falling. I remember after we got news of the first plane we all ran out to the football field from which you could see the towers. After we watched the teachers told us to get inside and go to the auditorium, everyone tried calling home or their parents on their cell phones, but few of them worked. Finally the bus came and everyone was sent home. It was kind of hard hearing the names read this morning, especially by kids of those in the tower.
