Why does everyone say pwn instead own. You cant tell me half the people on here can type an O instead of P. But maybe their just reatrded, I dont know.

It dates back to the early network games like Doom that allowed you to send messages to other players while playing the game, like "You Suck" or whatever.

A common message was "Owned".
But you had to type really fast to avoid getting killed, so you usually mispelled it as "Pwned" or "Pn3ed" because the 'p' and '3' were near 'o' and 'e'.

In fact, it was mispelled so often that the mispelled versions because common pop culture terms.

no, it just carries over into other games. with counter-strike being recent, like hp said, its the cool thing to do and ppl just say it on purpose. its used all over, not just during gaming now....

my hypothesis was correct! i always figured that pwned came about cause people spelled owned wrong and the since lovecraft knows everything i was right! yay.
