Yea Ted's gone, I think AOL has something to do with their ownership/payroll. But like you said he didnt put out as much $$ on the table has Stienbrenner even though he had it. I guess he had a lot of other things to do. But they didnt do that bad with 11 consecutive division titles and a World Series win.

and the only reason the yanks have a big purse is cuz they know how 2 manange their money. george has his own network so he get all teh ad money from that pluse the yankess i read some where make up 27 percent of all merch in the MLB. they earn their money. and for all of you hating on george the yankees did it way before him and will continue to do it after he is gone.

the yankees are more than a team they are a dynasty and the stadium is more than just a stadium it is teh house of baseball.

arod is 10 billion times better than jeter as a SS well... no maby like 5 times better. arod is the best short stop in baseball imo the yanks barely need a good 2nd baseman cuz jeter can play like 10 feet left of 2nd cuz of arods range this will also make it near impossible to steal against. wilson will do just fine as a second baseman and who knows he may be the next soriano, just as long as he isn;t the next noblach(sp?) lol

anyone who bashes the yankees for "spending so much money" or being "sellouts" is ignorant and knows **** about baseball. Hmm, i wonder who the worst team in baseball is...oh yea, the detroit tigers. Oh but who owns the tigers? oh yea, Michael Ilitch the same guy who owns the detroit red wings, who btw have the highest payroll in the nhl. But unlike steinbrenner, Ilitch doesnt realize that in baseball, you have to spend to win. Not only that, but George has to give money to Ilitch because of this gay "revenue sharing" and not a single penny of it goes into getting new players. You can bash george all you want, but the truth is, he is the most successful baseball team owner ever. Obviously he is doing it right, and almost everyone else isnt. Almost all of the owners can afford to spend as much as the yankees do, if their owner is willing. Unfortunately for those teams, the billionares dont know how to run a baseball team in 2004.

Maddux isnt going to do much hes getting too old for the game. Granted he was one of the best but hes fading now. I wish him the best of luck though, hes done ALOT for the Braves.

You really need to check out your facts about the Yankees. You seriously don't know what you are talking about. Let me remind all of you that I hate the Yankees, but I'm not the type of person that makes up these stupid arguments like Yankees buy everyone. Look at the Yankee players that have come through the farm system, they drafted Pettite, Rivera, Jeter, Contreras, Soriano, Bernie Williams, Nick Johnson, and a couple other I can't think of right now. I don't want to hear how the whole Yankees team is stolen off of other teams.

Second of all, Arod and Babe Ruth did have similar things happen to them. The Red Sox were cheap and wanted money off of Ruth so they sold him to the Yankees for $100,000. The Red Sox weren't willing to dish out the extra 20-25 million dollars, so just like Ruth they were not able to get Arod.

About the tigers...They are the worst team in baseball, but you can't say they haven't been using money. They just did sign Ivan Rodriquez to a four year $40,000,000 contract. Teams such as the Brewers and Reds bother me more, since they get billion dollar stadiums from tax payers money and luxury tax, but they STILL CUT BACK. Its a joke.

another point i want to bring up.

yankees and mets play in the same city. The yankees and mets are considered rivals. The yankees and mets both had the highest payrolls in 2003. But the yankees are bashed for spending money and WINNING. and the mets are seen as innocent for spending money and LOSING. god, the yankees just suck i guess.
