Well, this is interesting...
This thread is full of a lot of crap, but I actually agree with SEAL-1 on this. Although I'm a much bigger fan of Chargers and Challengers than I am of "tricked out" (be it fast or slow) econo cars, I think that charger looks absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah, don't go on about "classic" or "mopar" or any of that. I've been to my fair share of muscle shows, and I know there are quite a few guys that get their jollies from cars like that. I just simply can't stand the way it looks.
I automatically dislike any charger with that grill cover front end thing (whatever it's called) that covers up the mean looking open grill. I'm sure it helps with wind resistance, but if it were my car I would rather it look mean. The green paint is also quite putrid. That stems over into personal preference, but no matter what your preference is, you can't deny those bright colors say "Hey, look at me!". I won't even comment on the wing.
No doubt that beast is powered by a hemi big block that's putting down 450+ horsepower and is capable of well over 1,000. Quite respectable if you ask me. This car goes to show that power isn't everything, and looks aren't power.

well theres also the muscle cars that use talent to put a power with style. For example my friend jerads mustang.

before it planted itself upside down in a ditch it was spitting out about 550 hp. Mustangs are considered pretty cars and not muscle. But with the biggest med block engine in it you can have some fun. I helped assemble alot of the engine and know they are fun to rip apart. But just recently my friends vr4 which happens to be another very fast car...that could in fact easily out run the mustang in a longer race. His engine blew up and we spent time helping him reasemble....I gained a huge amount of respect for that little vtec engine. With its twin turbo it would smash 200 with ease. We muscle heads have to remember that muscles can whip out a wheel stand and grumble like no other off the line but these little imports or 4 bangers or what ever it is you call them can run for thousands of miles getting 10Xs better gas millage...Back in the 50s and 60s gas was like 30 cents a gallon....if that were true I would def drive a muscle cause it wouldn't matter. To get a car that can get you to work cheap and also have some fun at night is nice.

Are you talking about a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 / GTO? That's still one of my favorite cars to date. Consider yourself lucky you got to work on it.

*Assuming you're talking about the GTO*
vtec? Not quite sure where you're going with that... Maybe you got a little mixed up? Also, I'm not so sure I'd call a 3.0lt engine "little". Sure it's dwarfed by the 440 big blocks of the past, but nowadays a 3.0 liter v-6 is fairly standard for a turbocharged car.

Yes, that would beat any compact in a drag race. However, drag racing isn't the only kind of racing. A compact would rip that car a new one in a rallycross or road rally any day of the week...that would actually be really funny to watch, lets see how quickly you can run that first quarter-mile and then run straight off the track and into a tree when you can't slow down fast enough to make the hairpin turn.
|
not true. again, you keep bringing back that "gay, immature 16 year old" statement that NO ONE MADE. and yet again, not every car with any body mods is a ricer; only the ones that look ridiculous. the Superbird is outlandish, but if I remember right it was one of those homologation(sp?) things where they made it for NASCAR races and had to sell so many of them to the public to be raced.
and again, the whole "rally racing" argument is brought back, and again, maybe 5% of the population races like that, if even that much. that Superbird was made for the oval track. by contrast, most Hondas were made for driving to/from work, school and the grocery store. now a WRX, THAT is engineered for twists and turns. if they didn't look so lame, I might want one of the fast ones (whatever ones have the gold wheels). but the Lancer Evos are almost as fast and look a lot better. I'd still want a 300zx TT though, or maybe my old 240Z (still miss her )
oh, and since when do they use trees for barriers? I would think you'd run into some tires or something....

Thanks. Since the Road Runner, Charger, and Super Bee are all based off the same chassis (chrysler B), I'd say I wasn't too far off for someone that's definitely not a mopar enthusiast.

You have obviously never watched a rallycross before, very little of the track has barriers that will actually stop a car at high speed. Often, its just the track with woods or an open field (or whatever other geographical feature the track is located on) on either side.

Well since its not mainstream it doesn't really count as racing, or maybe it doesn't count for anything, period.
My point was he said that the Superbird could "rip your Focus a new one." I agreed that, yes, in drag racing it would, however there are other forms of racing besides drag and NASCAR that it would suck in.

Sorry, to avoid confusion in the future I'll refer to all muscle cars as "redneck cars." You know, just like how everyone (besides zypro) on this forum refers to compacts as "ricers."

redneck cars are 80's firebirds and camaros or 80's trucks with huge mudhumper tires

Never said I wanted a car from Japan. Actually, if you go back in this post you'll see that I said I prefer to buy American (Ford specifically.)
Like I said way back when this thread first started, a majority of people label any compact as a ricer, and adding fuctional accessories makes it worse. However, you can have an absolutely ridiculous-looking muscle car (like that puke-green Superbird) and nobody says anything, yet when you have a compact with any body mod whatsoever you'd think you walked into a convention of gay-bashing oriental chefs.

im not really a ricer hater...ive got my own ricer (2000 mitsubishi eclipse)....i just find it funny that there are plenty of people out there that would (and have) put a wing on an otherwise unmodified "civic" and play fast and the furious around the town. it just seems like a waste to me, and i laugh every time is see "that guy".

I define ricer as all show, no go. Never said the focus was a ricer. I actually drive what a lot of people would call a "ricer" myself.

I believe I did. I thought it was quite ugly.
