Viewloader Onion
Hi Guys,
New here as you can tell so hello to all of you!
Been paintballing for a few years on and off mostly on sites using their own kit, i've been more into airsoft than paintball really, but I've always had a cheapo paintball gun just to lark around with a little. Didn't really care what people thought of it as it fired paintballs and that was it to me!
I've just decided after paintballing last weekend that I want to get into PB more now, and i'm going to be selling some airsoft kit to fund better paintball equipment.
My Viewloader is a funny gun, I know they are the skoda of the paintball marker family (old skodas that is!), but it's served me pretty well. Anyways, I'm going to buy another marker but thought I would get some views on mine first, and what would be the best step up, I must say i've fired tipmans (98 custom), and spyders, and mine is easily equal if not better! so need to know where to go. Anyways, on with the gun! (please don't laugh!);
Re-manufactured Viewloader Orion (lol ok just the re-manufactured bit) with custom quick release pin, lightweight Delrin bolt, 'pro-tuf' coated striker and heavy duty springs, 32 Deg Sticky grips (can't get dye3's over here in blue ), standard 3000psi CO2 tank with Dye Rhino protector / cover, Custom drop forward with short line and Pure Energy regulator / grip, PMI 14" barrel, TSA Halo LCD hopper, and the funniest bit, a high quality Class 3 laser site (from one of my airsoft, never use it but just for show lol). Its also not really blue anymore, its mostly black with anodised blue outline around the case.
Thats my little gun, she actually performs pretty damn well, I have fired a lot worse. I read everywhere since having it that everyone says they are a crap quality gun etc, I guess the only original thing on mine is the 45 frame and case though. I was tempted to get an electric trigger for it, but think i'll just put the extra towards a new marker. This marker has cost me around £258.00! I know I could of got better for that but hey I wasn't planning on getting into it was just messing around with it!
So is it me or does my marker sound like it goes well to you guys? lol. When I've mentioned to a few people I have a Viewloader, they s******, but I can honestly say, they are suprised when they fire it. TBH, I don't really have much of a clue about paintball guns, it's just my nature that any gun I bought in airsoft, I played with it and made it better or put new bits on, like tinkering see.
Anyway let me know what you think and what I should do, i'll post some pics up over the w/end.
Cheers!

First welcome to the forum, this is the wrong place to post this but since you're new this time we won't count it Honestly the VL Orion was my first gun when i started, but i soon found out that it wasn't able to perform up to what i needed. It depends on how much you have to spend, give me a price and i'll show some guns

Welcome, I would go with a B2k4 that would work. They are extremely cheap now. Pm me and I can get you one for 210. I dont think I can put the site.

Hi again guys, can't get bloody camera working, but heres some oldish pics b4 the reg was fitted etc.
She actually performs pretty good, probably because nearly all of the gun has been changed, all internals etc! I'm looking at spending no more than about £400.00 on my next one, I'm from the UK btw
Edit Just saw that post about best VL on here, think I might challenge that title lol
PS I know I called the post an onion, thats what we call them round here lol.

lol it's ok, tend to find a lot of kids arounds on PB sites I noticed. I'd like for him to post up 'real' pics and spec of his gun, i'm betting the bolt and hopper on my gun cost more than his in total.
Funny thing is I can afford to go out and spend another 400 like that on a gun (probably around 750USD). So it really doesn't worry me
Sad that kids have to just shout abuse to try and look big / clever, nm.....

Orions definitely aren't very high quality, but they aren't complete crap. There are a bunch of guns that you could get, but I would get a Spyder Imagine for now. Then when you get used to the electronic trigger frames, you can upgrade to a b2k, wrath, ion, promaster, or other electro-pnuematic guns...unless you think you can handle more complicated guns.
Don't put any more money into this. In my opinion, you have already spent too much, but o well. If you get an Imagine, don't put much into that either. Pretty much the only thing that would be worth changing on there is barrel, drop forward ASA, and feedneck. Also, you might want to invest in a compressed air tank.

Hi guys,
Though I would update you all, I went to a local paintball store a couple of weeks back, I tested out a few guns around the $220.00-$300.00 area.
It was between an Autococker, an Ion and a Spyder Pilot 05.
After much though I decided on the pilot, it shot as straight as the ion, and felt equally as nice, the novelty of the different firing modes was good, although not usable in a real game.
I ended up getting the ACS, buying a DYE 2 piece ultralite (nearly got a boomy but made the gun feel a bit too front heavy) some dye sticky 3's (as they are the best), compressed air tank and reg, new lines etc.
Fitted the Halo LCD from my old gun, and you will recognise the tank cover too.
The set up all in all cost around $600.00 USD, I know things are a little more expensive over here, but I am very pleased with the result. Haven't converted it to air yet, but here is a pic as it is atm, I have been using it in a few games, and it's awesome
Since my first post, I have been paintballing on average twice a week. Three of those times have been walk on's, and have been a great laugh. A good friend of mine has his own stables and woodland to the back of his cottage he lets me and four friends use to practice in, so it's been a real quick learning experience for me. I'm absolutely loving it though
Ended up giving the old VL setup to a friend who wanted his own marker in the end, and he was well chuffed. I played in one game and although it was fun having my own marker, I just decided it didnt do anywhere near what I wanted (although I got a fair number of people out ).
Cheers!

damn, is that an 18 inch barrel? bit big.
but the spyders a big upgrade, it will treat you pretty well until you decide to go high end.
I hated my orion, i ended up takin a bat to it the other day for kicks, and now it has no trigger, and a busted frame.
also, if that package is 600 usd there, you should buy american, and save a hell of a lot of money

Thew orion does seem like a toy to this one lol. I just couldn't be arsed and gave it to a friend so he can play with us on the woodland we use when not at a site.
Aye thats a 18", I've got another tip in black that makes it 14" too.
Stuff is pretty damn dear overhere, but nothing unusual there, we always pay over the odds!
Halo LCD was £50.00
Pilot ACS was £147.00
Barel with two ends £105.00
Air with new bottle Reg lines and kit was £80.00
Grips £18.00
Bottle Cover £16.00
Other little bits, I'm guessing thats gotta £416.00 gotta be close to 600USD probably more.
I did order a whole kit for my brother actually for his Tipman to turn it into a BT16 Tactical, was dirt cheap, but three days after ariving got a letter from customs wanting me to pay them another 20%, bastards!
Let me tell you this is a **** country lol.

you have to be the coolest person from the U.K i have ever seen post.
now that thats out of the way
pretty good setup actually, you made some of the best decisions of any newer player without much guidance. Congrats.
The barrel is a bit big" but 18" isn't so bad really, at least you didnt get like a 21 inch barrel like some of the newer players i've seen

That's why you mark things as gifts...no customs charges.
Nice choice by the way. Spyders are always good to start out on.

Cheers
I tried the 14 and 18, didnt seem to be too much in it, the 18" had to have the pressure turned up a bit. Overall it seemed to fire a little straight further than the 14", but nothing really noticeable and it does need the gas adjusting for it.
Think I will just alternate the tips in a few games and see which one suits my style.
I could have spent more, but for what I am doing atm, I thought this was a pretty good set up to play recball (that I liked) without going to over the top too soon.
Goin to have to give it a rest over the next two weeks leading towards xmas I think. Got mugged by a couple of guys when I was getting the flag in the last game, the welts and bruises have been steadily building, time to give them chance to go me thinks
