X Ball for St Louis Area Players!
What an awesome day for St Louis’s first X Ball tournament! Thanks to Xtreme Paintball Park, Total Greif, Eric and his 2 teams from Gateway Paintball, PIC and Bonk, and the spirit showed by BKR from the Paintball Store in Otto. Great time! Fast paced! Quick games! No overshooting! No arguing! Clean play! And did I mention fun?!?
Pump players from around the area converged today on Xtreme Paintball Park outside Columbia, Illinois. Four teams registered for the areas first X Ball tournament with a twist. Pump gun only! The games were very high tempo. Each team had subs, which seemed to be much needed. The audience participation was GREAT!!! The coaching was fun, but challenging. You got to hear lots of voices, but determining which one was directed at you and which one was “helping” was challenging. The audience participation was intense and sometimes used to “misdirect” a player. Hopper ball was generally the rule of the day as most individual games only lasted a matter of 5 or less minutes. The majority of players used hoppers and compressed air, but there were a few old school stock class pumps wielding their deadly accuracy.
PIC faced off against Bonk in the first round. I may be wrong, but I believe a misplaced flag (deposited it at the wrong end) may have cost them a point and the overall game (5 points needed to win). BKR, representing the Paintball Store, played valiantly against the pump experienced Greifers. Most of BKR had only occasionally shot pumps and had scrambled to have enough available for the tournament. Gotta tip my hat to those guys! They played well and held Greif off each game, but only for a time. Greif did come out 5 points to nada for BKR.
The finals boiled down to Total Greif versus Bonk. What games! A back and forth battle. Bonk wins first point. Greif ties it up. Bonk takes the next. Greif ties it up again. Went this way the entire game. With the teams tied at 4 a piece, the 2 teams rushed to finish off each other. But wouldn’t you know it? The game was stopped for TIME!!! Both teams switched up players and went head to head in a sudden death matchup. This was Total Greifs day, as they came out the victors in the first of the 8 game X Ball series to be held at Xtreme.
So break out those pumps, get your team together, and challenge for the next tournament on Sunday, April 30th ! $10 per person and bring your own paint! A GREAT deal!
