Paintball related injury?
Im new to paintball relatively, not new to the concept of shooting your friends with some non-lethal weapon for fun. Excuse me if the question sounds dumb, But have any of you guys ever heard of some serious or even fatal accidents related to the malfuction of the air sytem- blow out of some kind ( high pressure plus small metal attachments= bad) some dude working at local shop said something about places not installing Anti-siphon tubes because some relation to this.........anyone got any feedback.

A few years ago (by that I mean over a decade now when I was a cadet ) all schools/cadets/organisations in britian were banned from playing paintball after some kid shot himself in the eye, blinding him; and I think I heard something about brain damage although that could be rumor.
The worst non stupid accident Ive ever had is a pull ligament. Although you can get that kind of injury just by running an 80M sprint

Paintball is actually safe compared to most sports...Theres tons of articles on this fact. Something like even more people get hurt bowling then paintball...

Let me be more specific, Im asking if any of you folks heard of an air tank blowing out and shooting some type of shrapnel (nipple ie whatever mounts, connectors, used) at incredible speed, that it hit someone and caused either serious injury or fatality. Dude working at PBall shop said if you have an anti-syphon installed improperly or someone doesnt tigthen your connection right it could cause some serious injury. He went on to say most shops dont do it anymore cause of the insurance liablity. any truth to his statments?

Some lady died last summer, cause it was at her sons b-day party. The kid was unscrewing his tank, but the tank was old and instead was undoing itself internally. The tank went flying off and hut the lady in the back of the head. Thats all that i have heard.

I think this situation has only been recorded like 2 times in history, instead of screwing the tank out of the ASA, they screw the top right off of the tank, causing it to blow out at extreme speeds, hasn't happened very often because now they tighten it as best they can and use locktite and whatnot

happened to one of my friends...he wasnt paying attention when he was unscrewing his tank (it was empty thank god) and all of a sudden we heard a pop...just the remaining co2 coming out of the tank...not enough to launch it or anything...the valve came completely unscrewed and was still in his ASA
he bought a new tank the next day...made a white line with white out on it from the valve part down onto the black of the tank...so he will notice if it starts to do it again...i also have marks
all my friends and i all have marks on our tanks so nothing like that happens...i would reccomend that to anyone using co2...i dont know much about nitro tanks so i dont know if it can happen with them

It is possible with HPA tanks, I did it but the tank was completely depressurized

It happens every once in awhile. High end nitrogen tanks hold like 4500psi in them, they are carbon fiber, so they can weaken over time. Some ppl let the hydro date (safty inspection thing) lapse, and then the thing blows on them when they fill it.

air tank injuries and deaths do occour but they are very rare and are very preventable. for instance, don't take your tank valve off and then not locktite it back, thats just stupid, and it is the primary cause of such incidents. the other commonly seen(by commonly i mean heard about) injury cause is from scuba tanks exploding, but this too is very very rare and generally only occours due to over pressurization, or faulty tanks.

It has happened MANY more times in inhistory, i saw one at my field last year, and im sure it will always happen, as long as people use outdated equipment/faulty equipment/Use equipment improperly.

Wasn't there a tourney a year or two ago that a tank launched itself after blowing off the gun, not sure if anyone got hit by it though. I remember seeing it on one of my pb DVDs.
Two weeks ago at the field a kid was unscrewing the tank from his gun, when me and my friend happened to notice the valve was unscrewing from the tank (One of the steel 3000 PSI HPA tanks) so he stopped before he unscrewed it any further. I think he had like 2k psi so it could have been bad.

no, thats the gold part(the valve on co2, its the regulator on nitrogen) that makes it fly off. When it unscrews all the air comes out the brand new hole (which shouldn't be there) and u get like a rocket effect. When the tank has very small cracks in it (usually b/c the person didn't get it hydro tested again) the pressure causes the tank to blow apart, sending pieces everywhere.
