As its name suggests, a drop forward (sometimes called cradle) allows an air tank to be mounted lower and more frontward than in a bottomline setup. A drop forward has two important benefits:
To make the entire paintball gun setup more compact, which lets players get closer to their marker and use the sites more easily.
To help balance the weights, particularly with heavier tanks, and thus make the paintball gun setup easier to handle and less tiring.

the drop forawrd also increases the height of your gun which is why it has been replaced by unimounts and rails in most tourney scenes.
