It's a program in an electronic board that is set to goto a certain rate of fire after a certain code or BPS is achieved...

Say I'm shooting a constant 10bps, then the ramping board will take over and shoot 17 for me...

It's sometimes considered cheating

Alot of tournements have guidelines for ramping and it's controversial but slowly being accepted into the paintball world...

It's your opinion..

Ramping contraversial. Some hate some love it there isn't a whole lot of in between but your question has been answered. That and whipping confused me when i first started since so many looked up too players do both.

That is not very accurate.

It was FIRST allowed in the late 90s, but then universally banned by everyone because it is unsafe.

But cheat modes became EXTREMELY sophisticated using logarithmic increase rates, and hidden shutoff modes that some tournaments were spending ALOT of money to try and stop it using computer controlled robots.

So, some just gave up. In effect, at some tournaments, you can have your gun shoot full auto at any speed. They may "say" its not allowed, but they don't really care, since the faster you shoot, the faster there bank account increases.
