Battery Operated

I know this is a dumb noob question but apparently im very inexperienced with paintballing. Why are some markers battery operated and some arent? Can someone please explain to me in a language I would understand.

Simple... some are electric while others aren't. Electric markers usually tend to be faster than mechanical markers (ones without batteries). Some electric markers may also have multiple firing modes... but those are usually worthless because most feilds don't allow them.

How does it make the ball fly faster? I mean does the electricity conduct friction or waves against the co2 and ball/barrel? I wants to know because i just bought a paintball gun that is not elec. powered (semiauto) and feel that i regret not paying a few more $$$ for the better. BTW im not really into tourney shootin yet......just backyard fields play.

Sorry I should have made myself more clear. With electric guns the balls don't come out faster... they still come out the same speed, but with electric it is usually easier to pull the trigger faster. This equals more balls / second.

basically, the trigger pull is shortened with an electric frame, making it easier to pull the trigger faster. some can be made to be lighter than a mouse click. with a pull that short, you can walk the trigger. walking is basically pulling the trigger using two fingers, one at a time (alternating with the fore and middle fingers, allowing for much faster firing speeds). with mechanical markers (w/o batteries), you dont usually shoot more than like 5 balls/second, usually even less, although you can get more. with electric markers, you can achieve rates of fire up to and over 20 bps (and aftermarket boards can can make a marker electronically uncapped). that sounds cool, but for a rec baller, that means more paint, and more money.
