Well I was looking into an ION and I liked everything about it but one thing. That was it shoots in a 3 round burst. I was wondering if you can change that into one shot one kill? ... Just let me know if you have a website that sells ION's cheap.

first off, what kind of spyder?
if you want an ion, then HPA is the best way to go like everyone said. there are many different types of HPA tanks. if you dont want to spend a lot, i suggest a 3000 psi tank of some sort (all tanks have 2 numbers on them, i.e. 68ci/3000psi, or 68ci/4500psi, the 4500 psi being bigger). those can be bought for around 70 lowest, but it depends on you situation on air. how much do refills on air cost?? if you get all day air, then get the smallest tank possible, if air is really expensive, then maybe HPA is not for you because the cheaper tanks hold less and you'll have to refill more. in that case, an ion probably is not going to work.
another option is to upgrade the spyder depending on the current setup, then save up for a better hopper and air tank, and when you can afford it and your son gets more in to paintball, then buy a new gun and use the tank and hopper for the new gun.

Well i have a spyder Xtra. I like it and all but I go paintballing almost every other weekend. My frined has a Pihranna EVO, i liked it ever since people said u can't use it with co2. the only problem I have is that the nitrogen tank won't fit under my arm. But my spyder xtra is in good shape i just want to update to a much better gun under 300$

if you get free air, then nitro might be something to condsider. just get the smallest tank, and you wont have to worry about the cost of refilling, and it will fit easier for you. if not, then get an imagine, forget upgrading the xtra unless you dont want to go electric. otherwise, its not worth it to buy ups for an xtra. another option is to look at the game face vexor eye (came out recently, i dont really know anything about it from experience), google it. you wont need HPA for it, and it comes with eyes, locking feedneck, etc. for only 180.

The EVO will run fine on CO2 BUT HPA is better. The Ion is a great gun and is just barely more expensive than the EVO. That being said, the Ion is a better gun but doesnt give you the CO2 option that the EVO provides.
