Hello.. I guess
I have just decided to move to paintball from airsoft, (I think) because there are no airsoft fields around here than I can play at until 4 years from now, and because I don't know anyone who plays. I have a few questions. Is there any way I can keep some of the realism that I loved from airsoft? And what exactly is sponsoring? I have read a few stickys and have decided I want a phantom self-cocker, I guess you'd call it. Can someone direct me to some good brands of masks and apparel?

Something else I have noticed is that paintball guns tend to be cheaper than airsoft guns by a bit. For example, I have spend 300$ on a stock airsoft gun, but I could get a paintball gun thats full metal, and is the one I want for 200$. However, over time paintballs will REALLY add up in price.

Some paintball guns can cost a lot more. I might suggest a tippmann 98 custom or a spyder to start out with. Those are pretty cheap. For a mask, the more money you spend the better it is. Maybe a dye invision or a vforce profiler. You might want a pod pack, cleats, and a jersey. Other than that have fun and welcome!

Alright thanks, but is the phantom really such a bad gun? I was planning on spending about 200-250$ on a gun, and I don't really like the sound of speedball. I'm sure someone can answer me, what exactly is sponsoring/how do I get it? Also, some airsoft guns can cost 6000+ dollars. But hardly anyone uses those.

The phantom is not a marker i would reccomend to test the waters of paintball. I suggest a spyder imagine. Its a cheap electronic marker (little over 100) that is well suited for new players.
The reason i dont suggest the phantom to start is that you may feel yourself to be outgunned, seeing as how it is a pump marker (pump once per shot), and most other markers will be semiautomatic, and in many cases electronic.
As for not liking the sound of speedball, try it a few times. Its alot different than playing in the woods, and requires some different skills, but is definently alot of fun. High end paintball markers easily run into the mid 1000's, and you may notice that more serious players (tournament players), will quite often have these.
Welcome to the forums, there is ALOT of information in the stickies at the top of each forum, i would suggest going through them.

Okay, I think that this is the gun that you're talking about, and I have a buncha questions: http://paintball-discounters.com/cgi...14105245382.39
Okay, first, tell me if that is indeed the paintball gun you're talking about. Second, please let me know if that's a decent site to order from, or if I should just go look through a local paintball place. Third, how much extra maintenace/ gear and gun stuff would I need because it's electric? Forth, what does "Add A Wrek 4+1Pack W/ 140rd Tubes" for 14 extra dollars mean? And could someone please tell me what being sponsored is? Because I heard once you do, you can get paintballs for a lot cheaper.

thats the gun, and the site is a good, reliable site to order from. i've ordered from there before.
being sponsored is when you get a paintball company to pay for some or in rare cases, all of your stuff, or give you free stuff, in return for advritising for thier company by loading up your marker and hopper with thier stickers, and playing for them in tournaments, and ultimatly representing thier company. in beggining sponsorships, you may just get discounts from your local pro shop. but you have to start somewhere. i could go on forever about sponsorships, and how to get them, and other stuff like that, but i know theres a sticky about sponsorships somewhere on this forum...

Yes, that is the marker i am talking about. It is a pretty basic marker and doesnt need much in the way of extra maintenance because its electronic, you just might want to keep it out of the rain. I havent ordred from that website so i do not have experiance with it. I usually order from paintball gear or xpaintball.com
adding a wrek 4+1 pack w/140rd tubes means u would also purchase a pod pack with pods. Basically a pod pack lets you carry extra paint onto the feild to reload.
I was hoping someone else would answer the sponsorship question as i dont think i can give a good answer, but ill give it a go. A sponsor is usually a company that you advertise, usually by using their products or sporting their logo on your gear. Hopefully in exchange for the advertisement, you get a price break. You generally need to be on a tournament playing team (that places well) that plays alot and is well known. Although i do believe that there are some well sponsored Scenario teams.

Alright thanks everyone. I have another question. (sorry I know like nothing about paintball :P) What is an ASA, and what exactly is chopping paint? From what I've heard people say, it has something to do with not using "eyes", what are they also?

It's cool, you gotta learn somewhere. ASA stands for air source adapter, basically it is where you plug your air source (co2 or hp bottle) into your gun. Chopping paint is when you are firing to fast for your hopper. Say you pull the trigger then again really fast, if you don't have a fast hopper, the second ball might not be all the way in the chamber before you pull the trigger, causing the bolt to slam into it, resulting in breaking the ball. Eyes are a paint detection system, they "see" if the paint is all the way in the breech. So if the ball was not totally in the breach, and you pulled the trigger, the eyes wouldn't allow the gun to fire, and you wouldn't chop.

the barrel is good, i got one on my tippmann, it will make it a little more accurate
but yea, thats a really good setup, all you need now is to get the tank filled, buy some paint, and get a 9v battery (if it doesnt come with one)
