Newbie Here!

First off let me say HI to all!

My 13yr. old son has the paintball bug. So we just got him an ION for his upcoming birthday. Well, he's really been trying to get me into it. So I went paintballing with him and his buddies today for the first time and had a blast! So now I need a marker! I would like to get something different from what he has but I don't want to spend alot. So I was looking at the SPYDER ELECTRA 05 and maybe a HALO hopper and a nitro tank. It seems like a decent gun to start with. I just wanted to get some of your opinions.

Thanks..............

no on the electra, just start out with a imagine, make sure your son knows how to maintain the ion properly, otherwise the repair bills will soon stack up.

First off, welcome to the forum, and the best ever sport!

All Kingman guns are pretty much the same. They all work the same, the different names are pretty much seperated by looks and whether or not they are electronic. No matter what, you are going to get a great beginner gun if you go with a Spyder.

With the money you save by buying a Spyder you can buy upgrades such as a barrel or bolt and Halo B like you said. If you go with HPA now that would be good as well because if you want to upgrade to a better gun in the future, you will have all the necessities.

The Ion isn't really a beginner marker because it is electro-pneumatic. As long as he lubricates his gun and takes good care of it, it should be fine. If you have a local paintball store, they should be able to show him the basic workings and fix things if he can't figure out what is wrong.

He might might also want to look into some upgrades. A feedneck, barrel, and a trigger. He should be set with that, an electronic hopper and HPA tank.

Hope this helps.

Its not hard to maintain the Ion just read the manuel its pretty self-explainatory. I would say go for the Electra just make sure you want to play enough so you dont just have a gun sitting there also i wouldnt get a Halo because you wont need its speed, meaning the gun wont shoot fast enough for the halo to be nessacry but you still need a fast hopper so it feeds consistant and doesnt chop i would say Revy with X-board or Evolution 2 with Z-board is perfect, and for the tank i say yes get a good decent tank maybe not a 4500 psi one get like a 68/3000 psi PMI tank so you have money left over, also the money you save on the hopper instead of getting a halo you can buy a decent barrel for your Spyder.

the electra is a waste of money pretty much, you are paying for the rocking trigger. the only thing different is just that the electra has the rocker, otherwise its just another spyder.

Thanks for all the info!
It seems like everyones main upgrade recamendation would be a barrel. Any suggestions on a barrel for the SPYDER ELECTRA 05? I'm not sure what to look for in a barrel other than length. Also, the add says this gun can shoot 30bps. so wouldn't I need a decent hopper like a Halo TSA Frontman? This SPYDER comes with a Rocker Trigger. Has any one ever used this trigger, and if so is it good?

Thanks...............

you still seem hung up on gettign the electra... tsk tsk.

All you're paying fro is a rocking trigger frame(which isn't legal at some fields) and looks. As suggested above, the imagine is your best buy if your'e gonna go spyder. The new spyder imagine 05 comes with a flat trigger that is very easy to walk. I guarentee you'll love it. since you were planning on spending all that extra money (since an imagine is only $105 new compared to the electra, which runs at $250 i think??) you can spend the maney on upgrades such as a new barrel (might i suggest a J&J or a CP, both are cheap and work well for a spyder)

If your'e planning on getting a better gun in the long run, a halo would suit you well. but if you have plans ot stay with the spyder I'd get a revy with an x-board or a reloader b. they feed abotut he same rates, but the reloader is sound activated wheras the revy has sensors to tell when the ball drops.

Well now I've been looking at the Indian Creek Designs Bushmaster 2004 B2K PDS.I have just one dumb question, where do you screw the tank in on this gun. So any input on this gun would be great!

For that gun, you have to buy a bottomline ASA. So, you would have to purchase a rail and an air source adapter, plus some macroline.

I don't think a b2k is a good beginning marker. You would be much safer getting a Spyder Imagine and purchasing upgrades. The essentials are the gun, tank (co2 or nitro, nitro is a lot better though), goggles, and a hopper. I would get a Viewloader Revolution if you don't plan on getting a better, faster gun in the future. If you do want to get a faster gun in the future, I reccomend the Halo B.

For the Imagine, the first upgrade you would want to get would be a barrel. Dye makes very nice barrels...but are a little pricy. Smart Parts and Custom Products have great entry level barrels that don't cost very much, but are still decent.

with the ICD markers you have to buy an ASA (where your tank screws into) if you want and ICD marker I would recommend to look into the Promaster, they are new and nice. I just got one and i love it.

But hey thats just me.

Edit: Damn you freak you beat me to it

I would suggest you go with a spyder Imagine. Then get a clamping feedneck, halo, Compressed air tank. Also some upgrades to consider. Check-it products unimount, Cp regulator, T-board, Smart parts J&J or Progressive or Cp 1 piece barrel.

Welcome to the money pit we call paintball!

My son has a friend that has a Tippmen A-5 w/E-Grip and double trigger with a Freak barrel and the hopper and a tank that is in great condition. He said he would sell it to me for $315.00. Which is a good deal!
Just wondering why everyone thinks the Imagine is the way to go for me. I can shoot pretty fast with the right gun.

oo man get that a-5, those things are fast, wat do you play speedball or woodsball, if you play woodsball a-5 is good, but if you have an e-grip on it you can keep up with the ramping electros to

the rocking trigger frame doesn't actually shoot 30 bps... unless you can move your fingers that fast. the burst and full auto modes are capped at 13 bps. only semi auto has the 30 bps cap.

normally i would say go with a spyder, but now that this a5 deal came up go with that. everyone is suggesting the spyder because they're really all that begginers need. and thats a reliable gun that shoots at least half decent. if you dont know what your doing (if you got a bushmaster or something) you have a good chance of really screwing it up, and end up costing you money due to expensive repair bills.

your best bet is to get the a5, play paintball alot, at real organized fields (with refs and walkons and such, playing around the house is cool and fun but it wont make you that much better), and then maybe later after you get good you should start thinking about getting a higher end marker.

make sure your son follows that instruction manual when maintaining and disasembling that ion.

that is a good deal, and idk if your son knows this or not....but DONT USE OIL in the ion, you will ruin the noid.....pick up some dow 33 "shocker lube" and only use that for his marker, on the bolt.....never put oil newhere in or on it.
