Definitely. Just polish up the bolt a bit, get a new barrel, and a halo and you're shooting like a pro!

Let me start by saying I previously owned a Tippmann A-5 but sold it due to all my friends not buying a gun when they said they would. I have to say the barrel totally sucked, so I bought a J&J ceramic barrel (can't remmember if it was 12" or 14"), but it didn't seem to make much difference on the A-5. I have to say I loved everything else about this gun though.
Anyway I had a question about buying a new gun. I will probably be playing woodsball most of the time, and was wondering if I should go with a Tippmann 98 Custom Pro, or a Tippmann A-5? (I found a site that will sell the A-5, Mask, and 20 OZ, for $200) Which one is better, or niether? And Which Barrel to upgrade to? Because I know the stock is crap for both guns. Also is there anything that can be done to your marker for better accuracy? Becuase I would rather hit on the first shot rather than 40 shots later.
Thanks, and sorry for the long post

Well I just found a new in box Tippmann A-5, tank, and mask for $140.00, so I guess that pretty much made up my mind. Now I'll just have to start looking for a better barrel, thinking 12" bigshot maybe.

I just bought a spyder xtra 07 for a backup, and I don't understand what the hype is about this gun. Let me say it shoots very accurately for stock, looks cool, and is very easy to strip the bolt to entirely squeegee, but I had a major chopping problem, and understand why they made the bolt so easily strippable. I thought maybe I was shooting too fast when it first happened, and then 15 minutes later when I finished cleaning all my equipment I finally was able to try it again, and it chopped again - watching the ball through the feed neck so it was successfully chambered. Within maybe 80 shots, I had two major chops in which I had to take everything apart and thoroughly clean - entire feed neck, hopper, and bolt. I was using super swirls if that makes any difference, mind you there were no dimples, squares, nor eggs. So I don't know maybe my experience was an isolated one, but I wouldn’t recommend this marker to anyone. Maybe some of the other spyder markers are better, but since they’re all in the same relative price range I don’t think I could expect much more than what I experienced here.
So, long story short, I think you would be much happier buying something on the first/starter marker list other than a low end spyder xtra. Sorry I shouldn’t judge on one experience of one marker, but this one thoroughly pissed me off to say the least.

Thanks for all of the praise guys, i try hard to stop by at least once a month to keep it up to date, although i've been real busy latly.

this thread needs a serious update.
In smart parts, we have the vibe, ion, and epiphany (why the hell isn't the Ion in here!?) (140, 185, and 250 each respectively at AV)
ICD Has the promaster for 140 at AV
The Mini for 325 (a little up there for a newbie) at AV
Proto SLG for 250 at AV
Proto Rail for 275 at AV
not going to mention any of the WGP stuff, it all looks like ****.
edit: I guess you could consider some of this mid-range stuff, I could make a thread about that, would probably be easier and less confusing.

I did some editing of this yesterday but know nothing about the SP markers so i didn't bother with them. If you want ot make them int eh right format, go right ahead and I'l edit them in for you.
Darktamer is currently also working ona mid-hihg end list.

yeah, I saw his list, so I'm content... although this will be looked at much more... so I think it at least deserves a Revamp.

T start, buy a spyder Imagine, Pilot, or VS1. These are easy electro sear to maintain. vids on how to take apart these are all over youtube or even on kingman, DO NOT UPGRADE THESE AT ALL!!! I learned the hard way years ago, i STILL cant sell mine :-p
If you're somewhat familiar with these guns, get an Ion or a PMR/SLG. They shoot really nice and are pretty simple to take care of, Ion being slightly more difficult to take care of.

Do alot of research. Read all of the forums and websites. Google it as well. It is all going to depend on what you can spend and what you would like to do in the world of paintball.
