Help, new marker often fires two paintballs at once
I just got a new viewloader prodigy e-grip. Overall I love the marker, but, it often fires two balls at once (maybe once every 10-15 shots), which obviuosly sucks. With one kind of paint it was even firing THREE! Sometimes they then chop because of this.
I have no idea what's causing this. I don't see any complaints about this being Prodigy problem in the reviews on this marker. It's happened with four different kinds of paint now, so it's not just one problem paint causing it. I took apart the detent thing and cleaned off any residual paint from chops, and made sure it was back in correctly and looked fine. This didn't help either. One problem that may be linked to this one is, often if I point the marker down while running, or jiggle it a little, the paintball will come rolling right out of the gun. Again, this is with four completely different paints. Maybe the ball is moving down the barrel some and allowing another to drop? How they get past the detent though is beyond me. I have read on these forums that the detent is not for holding the balls in, it's for preventing multiple loading/firing. Mine appears to do neither! Any suggestions (other than "take your crap gun back to the store!") I suppose I will take it back if I can't find a solution, but, I love it otherwise for the $70 price and would like to keep it.

As I said, I've checked that out and cleaned it, etc. It looks fine (curves slightly into the barrel). How can I check this? What should it look like? Can I just replace this part and are they universal or brand specific? I've never seen them in the paintball sections of stores.
Thanks

Is it a stub? Or more of a ball? If it is a stub, like rubber, and its tilted toward the front. That's definately what's letting the ball go through. Exactly what my r6 did.
Heres what i did, i took a squeegie (battleswab or any fuzzy one thats hard and doesnt bend) and pushed it up through the barrel (after taking out the bolt) and just let it sit there, it bent the detent back into its normal place, if you know what im saying. Push it through the barrel so the detent bends toward the bolt, adn then when the gun fires the bolt will push it completely straight again.

Hmm, I'm not sure my detent is like either you described. It's more like a little piece of plastic that is shaped like a comma , so here's a diagram the best I can do, looking as if you could see through the barrel:
gun body

tip of barrel
so, that little curved out part of the comma is the curved out piece of plastic that is my detent. I can put my finger on it and push it in....the comma part flexes flat, which is what happens when the gun fires I suppose, to let the ball come out. I even tried bending out out into the barrel more, but I didn't want to break it.

it's almost guaranteed to be your detent.. if you cant fix it or bend it back into place then i'd suggest buying a new one.. either call up the company and have them send you one, or see if you can find one online, or at a local pro shop.

I wonder why a lot of people don't like this gun? I mean, it seems to feel nice and work really well except for this double firing issue....especially for $75! But, I can still return it and get my money back....so, I may spend the extra $30 and get an Imagine. Worth it for a casual player that may use it 4 times a year?
Anyway, I tried bending the detent out a bit with a knife, without snapping it. It seems to hold the balls better now, but, I would think once the bolt smushes against it for some time again, it's just going to be too far "pushed in" again. (?)

yeah, telling him to get a new gun is really not helpful guys, most of us dont have a couple 100 to blow on a gun when we just want to rec ball a bit. but if you can return it still and you have the extra 30 it would probably be worth it to you, the imagine will hold up better.
otherwise, take it to a proshop around you if there is one, they can probably bend it back into shape. if you dont have one, or they cant do it, write the company. If its a new gun they'll prolly send it to you a new one for free or just shipping or something.

Thanks man. I think I will pursue returning it, but I appreciate your point. I like the idea of being able to customize the imagine a bit more down the road, and I already bought a smart parts teardrop for spyder threads (since those fit VL). Maybe the VL isn't built to hold up...I've only used it three times and the bolt looks worn in one spot (the black is scrapped off...and I do oil it a lot), and one of the four screws holding the air long onto the bottom of the grip fell out, and the other three were very loose from vibration!
Now, I just need to figure out why every darn paint I buy, from cheapy Gameface Scorcher and cheap Nelson to mid grade Draxxus to expensive PMI and RPS El Tigre roll right the heck out of both my stock VL barrel and my SP Teardrop barrel! I guess it's better too small than too tight of a fit! Still, that's making the detent 100% responsible for holding in the ball, rather than the barrel holding it a bit.

Actually, the Scorcher balls are great for the price, and my VL hopper is pretty good too that I got there, thanks.

No there terrible. They are like garbage. Just order paint from xpaintball. Seriously you are wasting your time with that stuff. I used to think that paint was good and yea it all broke into my gun. Running riot is absolutely right.

I'd check for something wrong with your gun/barrel/bolt. I shot 1000 of them last weekend and MAYBE two chopped, but I think just one, and that's because it double loaded and the one ball smacked into the other in my barrel.
VERY bright and thick paint inside too. The best mark I've seen from any paint at any price.

Yea, but the quality of the paint is not judged on how nice it looks when its marked someone. Its judged on freshness, quality overall of how even the paint bore is, and stuff like that. The walmart paint may seem good for the price, and may be ok for your gun, but dont think by any means that it is good paint, or that it will hold up well for an imagine or such.
