I dont even know what a chronograph is suppose to look like or how to use it. everyone tells me a chronograph is part of a watch. if anyone has any pics, answers or links would be greatly appreciated. and the local paint place doesnt have one btw.

I need help just like freedom here...... I am an avid paintballer, but have never seen a chronograph because the field i go to doesnt have one. All i know about them is that they measure your FPS (i think). Its a noobish question but hey we all started some where

The ones at the fields i go to are these red boxish looking things with a little piece of metal sticking up, you press the button on the side to turn it on and then you set your barrel ontop of the metal piece and you fire a few shots while looking at the little screen, and it would say your fps.

Yeah, and fields aren't allowed to operate without chronographs. It is EXTREMELY unsafe. Is the field you play at a legit field, or someone's private property? If it is a "legit" field they have severe issues.

my field uses the same red box type ones, but all refs carry hand chronos as well, and if any player calls to a ref that someone is shooting hot, they'll chrono him on the spot.

When I first started out, we just played in the backyard. We had never chrono'ed any of our markers. We were leaving serious welts. When we finally started playing at a legit field, we found we were shooting well over 300.
But anyway, yup... those red boxes are pretty much the standard field chrono. It displays your FPS and beeps if you are over 300. If you shoot a few shots over it quickly it will measure you BPS as well. Side note, if you want to see just how bad co2 spikes, shoot a few shots over the chrono. You'll be begging for an HPA tank.

Here's a picture of a handheld, just like the one I use when we play in the woods.
At all the fields we use the larger red ones. They tend to be more accurate as well.

No, you can't get them at regular stores, and they are very expensive too, over 150 bucks I think.

no i think the main part uses chronos but me and my freinds stick to the smaller part where they dont care because the crowd there is like 1/5 of what the main part is... its better

What kind of gun is it? If it's a Spyder, there is a knob on the back, turn this knob clockwise to increase velocity and counterclockwise to decrease velocity. If it's a Tippman, there is a hex screw on the side and I believe it is the opposite. Clockwise decreases velocity. I'm not 100% on the Tippy though, a friend owns one, I don't.
