N00b: Best Gun For RUSHERS???
I went paintballing for the first time this weekend and am looking to buy my own gear. I prefer rushing the front lines and sneaking up from behind as opposed to sniping away from a distance.
I was thinking of buying a Tippman A-5 set from ebay. It comes with the stock, flatline, barrel, e-grip (if you want), mask, back tank holder and extras for around 500 bucks. Its pretty steep but I'm guessing it would be a good investment. Would this gun even fit into the style of play I am looking for or am I better off with a cheaper full auto.
Also, I was looking into buying a pistol aswell, the Ariakon Overlord. Is this even useful or a waste of money?

that a-5 package is way overpriced...the mask youll get is probably crappy anyways. youll want to look for a good mask, as it is your most important part of your gear. if you cant see, you cant shoot.
go to www.xpaintball.com and look for a v-force mask, as they make good ones. I suggest getting a Spyder Imagine, with 20 oz co2, V-force profiler mask, viewloader revolution2 loader, and a J&J Ceramic barrel. That will be a very good setup for what you are looking for. IT has full auto, 3 round burst, and semi-automatic modes, and is electronic, along with the hopper, which means you should always bring extra 9 volt batteries with ya.
BUying a paintball pistol is not very practical, since i wouldnt imagine they are very accurate at all, youre just better off using your marker.

I am only familiar with Tippman's and Spyders, what are the advantages to having an ION for a Rushers style, and is it any good long range?

Orderpaintball . com has Ions for 180 I think.
So you can buy that for less than 500 and upgrade it.
'Nuff said.

rusher style? haha. ions are faster, and if you like to "rush" then shooting fast might help

Any paintball gun can be good for any range. Accuracy is based on how well your paintballs are matched to your bore size. Ions are good for Front Players because they are light - 2 pounds - and are fast and have 4 modes so you don't get bored - Full Auto - 3 Burst - Ramp and Semi.
A Tippman A-5 will have a longer range (shoot farther) with a Flatline barrel upgrade.

^^Don't tell him that about the flatline, that will make him want it more.
Try to pick up an ion, they are good, fast guns for a cheaper price. There are a couple problems with this though, you will need HPA (expensive), a decent hopper isn't required, but would be extremely helpful, and it will require a lot more maintenance than a tippy or spyder.
But for less than 500 bucks you could pick up a brand new ion (200), halo (~70 used, 100 new), hpa tank (new ~200 used ~100), and a mask (60)
That comes out to 560 if you buy it all brand new. Buying used stuff from a reputable seller on here or the nation could save you a lot of money.

Pistols are for recball and milsim ONLY.
BTW Flowbob, they are accurate enough to justify carrying as a sidearm... but there are no sidearms in speedball and using one will likely slow you down and make you a tasty target. Just elaborating for the dude.

Well, an Ion is one of the best guns you can buy for the price. It shoots very fast (17BPS), has a mode that actualy lets you shoot that fast, and is still small, light, and cheap. It being small and light will certainly help you run easier.
As far as range goes, when you are playing at a real paintball field, everyone must set the velocity of the gun to 280 feet per second. This will give every gun (with a non-flatline barrel) the same range. It really isnt safe to turn the gun up past 280-300 FPS. So really, range means nothing. The only reason people would be about to shoot farther than you is because they are either using a flatline, or they are cheating.

Yeah I went with an Ion and tend to be an aggressive person, so I'll enjoy the light weight and fast rate of fire. Being new to the sport I'm just gonna echo what everyone else says and say go with the Ion. I picked up a pretty highly modded Ion off of eBay for only $265, so you pretty much can't beat that. You'll end up with a great gun and not have to blow as much money on ups in the future.

A 72/3000 tank might be a bit too heavy if hes a new player.
But Adrenaline Rush > all

i use my tippy for woods ball and staying back, it has a RT but its still not fast and very unreliable (IMO) when your running and trying to sweet spot it.
if your a rusher jus get a 200 dollar ion w/ a halo and a 68/30 or 45 pending on where you play and how often you can get air.
bone stock the thing rips. and if you have a lil cash here and there down the line you can upgrade the board and get a qev (only like 30 bucks *should get first)
and like pureownage said its very light and easy to run with.
you can consistantly keep a nice Rof and keep people ducking into bunkers and whatnot and makes it easier for you to run around and stuff.
there good long range also w/ the right Kit
as for the flatline on the a-5 ive heard some good and bad things about it. but over all a fun gun to pay with.
but once i tested a ion i totaly switched over
