Buy a pick from lowes's (or an equivelent). It should have a small brab to hook the o-ring with.
Using a knife leaves you the ability to 1. cut yourself 2. ruin whatever your trying to remove the oring from.

Easiest way to do it is take a needle nose plyers and pinch it together, pull off.
For future reference.

pick, or eyeglass screwdriver. both should be in your toolkit anyways.

a nail will work (like a hammer and nail not fingernail) as long as its a metal bolt or tank youre taking it off of, just use something pointy, it wont mess it up.

I just squeeze the o-ring from behind and push towards me. It creates just enough of an egg-shape to pull off w/o tools.
