seeking opinions please
right now i have a Piranha GTI (no upgrades besides an electric hopper). bought it right before i went to college. i spent all my money on things other than paintball, therefore never played with it. lol.
i'll be getting back into paintball this summer. i want a very accurate marker, that's my main concern.
i love the feel of it. it's small and lightweight, exactly what i want.
if i upgrade the hell out of this gun (barrel, nitro, bolt, etc), will i have a worthwhile gun? or should i ditch it and invest in a better marker like a cocker, then upgrade that? thanks alot.

no
ditch it
and not a cocker
ion imo
anyway accuracy is mostly from the barrel
and if you want the best accuracy buy a barrel kit, they're around 100-180

First, check out the barrel you have. I have a 1-2 year old EXT,semi, that has a pretty accurate factory barrel.

ok, well i've spent the last 4 hours reading about the A-5 and the Ion.
i know you guys mentioned the ion, but i've always liked the durability of tippmans... plus CO2 (to use in an A-5) is just all-around more convenient for me...
2 questions
1)if i play speedball, will i be totally screwed with an A-5?
2)likewise, if i play woodsball, am i going to regret having an Ion (which seems to be entirely meant for entry-level speedballers)?
i appreciate the advice alot.

ok, first of all, you wont be screwed in either situation. however, you will want a faster, lighter, more efficient, and smaller gun if youre speedballing. its a huge advantage. on the other hand, if you woodsball, having an ion wont hurt you at all. it would actually be a good thing. i think you should go with the ion. the only problem is that buying an ion means buying HPA, and a hopper, so a much bigger investment. if you are planning on getting more into paintball though, those items are a good thing to have. plus, a 98c is going for about 140 now, only 60 less than the ion. and imo, for the ion, youre getting more than $60 worth of better quality. ive just never liked tippys so maybe im a little biased to. oh well, just my two cents.

can you run a cocker on CO2, even just for a while until i get the money for HPA?
do things still break on cockers even if you oil them after every time you play and do whatever other maintenance?

cockers are quite complicated and I would not reccomend them to a newer player. Also they NEED HPA. I would reccomend an ION if you have the money. About 600 bucks and you could get a good setup. They can run off CO2(anti-siphoned) but i wouldnt recommend it.
Tippmann A-5 sucks IMO. Get a 98 pro w/ Halo B hopper if you go the tippmann route. Same price, but a better gun + the hopper will stay with you forever.

ok, good to go. i'll order the Ion when the semester ends.
so if i did this:
-bought the Ion
-had siphon-filters installed on my tank
what would be more crucial after that? HPA or a new barrel?
as always, i appreciate the help.

Just get rid of your co2 and go to HPA/Nitro its much better especially for an ion. then get a freak barrel kit for it after the HPA tank.

Halo B or Egg hopper will work for the ION, I personally suggest the Halo. Revys are a little on the slow side for an ION but it could work.
HPA is a better investment, but if it is more convenient anti-siphoning your current CO2 tank(s) would work just fine.
HPA, then barrel, reg, feedneck, is prolly all you will have to worry about.
How much money do you have???
Are you planning on selling your pirhanna?

sorry it took so long to reply... but my shipdate for the Marine Corps was getting changed, so i didnt want to make my decision without knowing how much time i'll have to play.
i'm leaving June 12th. so if i've got a month to play and work, there's no sense buying a new gun NOW.. and as for selling the Piranha, i oiled it and slapped on the revvy and took it in my backyard.. and i was impressed.
with the upgraded barrel, it's accurate enough for me. and with the revvy i didnt chop a single ball... i was VERY satisfied, especially for how much people downtalk Spyders/Piranhas.
so i'll just keep the gun how it is (maybe upgrade to HPA before i leave, and i just bought a flush cocking system) and play every weekend till i leave for boot camp. i'd rather spend my money playing, rather than upgrading and not getting to use it, lol.
the Ion is what i'll get if i decide to upgrade later... but by that time i'll have HPA, so it wont look like too much money.

If you are handy, either make it flush cocking or spimmy it. I can't stand how the bolt sticks out so much.
