thats what walk on is for. just show up to places and play walk on games, meet some people that play. its definitely intimidating at first, but youll get used to it eventually and youll get to know some people who play at your local field.

So talk your friends into going once or twice with you and try to meet some people who play there fairly often. Exchange e-mail addresses or something and they can let you know when they are going, or you can ask them if they want to go on such-and-such a date.

You make friends playing paintball. None of my friends before paintball play paintball, so I went to a field and made a new group of friends.

If you go often enough people will notice you (refs and players) and you will meet cool new people.
I play AMAP at PBA and people know me there. And Matt never comes.

man i've walked onto fields i've never been at before and just had fun. Played a few rounds and started chatting it up with players. It's a cool experience to go and meet new ballers. If you're lucky you'll make some new friends who really love paintball and are willing to be there everytime you are.

Yeah, I was in the same position you were about 2 years ago... I just started going to the field and some emploies got to know me... Then some players got to know me, now I don't care who is there, you just get used to it. Besides paintball is too much fun to turn down because you don't know anyone. You can still shoo them regardless of how well you know them.
I also recently got a CCI Phantom, and that has been one of my best conversation starters... Everyone always wants to shoot it...
I say just get out and play... You will get more comfortable as you go...
Good luck and welcome to the sport.

You and everyone else in the world man. Yeah, its uncomfortable at first but after a couple of times you'll get used to it. The best advice I can give you is to ask a lot of questions, most people don't mind answering them and it is better that you ask than make the mistake, plus it will get people knowing who you are. The first time I played with my own gun it wasn't working and I literally went to someone at the field and was like "hey man I'm new I really dont know anything about PB do you think you could help me real quick?" If the person acts like an asshole to you about it, then you don't want to know them anyway...
Another piece of advice I'd give to all ballers is when you're in your local field if you see the "new guy" and he clearly needs some help, just go and offer. Make his life a little easier, who knows maybe you'll make a new friend.
