Looking To Get Serious!
Hello Everyone,
Im totaly new not only to the sport but too this forum! I have been out to go paintballing over the past few years only a few times. I recently retired (gave up) on skateboarding and am sorta bummed about that a bit! But it is something that I had to do because of my ankles getting wrecked. So I ponder on something that I could do in place of it. Paintball is where it's at! I have been watching videos and remanising on old times with paintball. Totaly stoked on it!
Im from Napanee, Ontario and its almost winter... but I am not going to let that stop me. I really hope to hook up with some people over the winter where we could go to some indoor grounds. My goal is to practice up in the winter for next summer, ultimately I would like to get a team orginized for next summer to hit local area tournements and what not. I really dont know anything about the sport and if there is really even any tournements in my area.
If anyone has any tips and advice for me please do get a hold of me. I will be checking in this site quite often in hopes that I can meet some fellow ballers. Ok Cool! Thanks for taking the time to read this and anything that you have would be greatly appricited... from advice on guns to just simply chat..... I want to learn this all inside out. I too have yet to purchase my gear and stuff so I am lacking in all areas! Peace!
Be Blessed
Billy K.

You should buy just about everything used, you'll save a ton of money. Use Ebay

No, don't start out buying used off of the net, it's pretty risky if you don't know what you're doing. Buy used stuff locally, that way you can talk to the seller and test out the equipment before buying. Many fields have their own online forum/message board where you can check out used equipment and get to know people.
What kind of budget do you have? If you don't have a huge budget, buying some lower end gear and using the rest of your money to practice as much as possible would be far better than buying a nice gun but only playing occasionally. This is a sport, and like all sports it takes practice to become good.
Welcome to the forum.

agreed. Locally is best. Every field has a ref or two along with some regulars who are always trying to sell something.
I'd suggest reading a few of the player guides on this forum and thinking about your budget and what you want.

well i've bought a velocity hopper, a vforce profiler(mask), and a 2k2 Timmy(Bob long marker), all from ebay and all three items turned out great. But unless you've been playing paintball for a while and know exactly what u want, its tru that its better to go to a local shop so u can test things out. And it could be cheaper too.

Thanks For The Welcome!
Ummmm... I don't at the moment have a whack of money that I can splurge, but I do hope to get some decent gear. I totaly agree with the whole practice thing to get good though for sure! I am hoping to get alot of practice in this winter.
I was however just recently blessed with 20 Tippman 98's I have yet received them so I dont know what kind of shape they are in. My girlfriends father used to run a paintball business... I did not know this till recently! So yeah... he has handed the guns over to us to take care of for him. I know the tippman is an entry level gun and what not,But what can I do to custom make one of these markers better?
Also, when it comes to masks and gear... who is one of the leading trusted companies? and if anyone is on a team of some sort let me know how you guys cordinate stuff and how often you practice. Thanks once a again for the post and looking forward to getting to know this sport and getting to know people!
Be Blessed
Billy K.

I have been somewhat checking out Ebay, but like the other guy said here about not knowing what I am doing and that it may be better to check into my local shop. But ebay looks like it may have some killer deals! So we will have to see what happens! Thanks

also if u plan on playing paintball for a while i would not upgrade any tippmanns
i used to have a tippmann and i upgraded it a whole lot... now that i play at a higher level i regret that because upgraded guns usually dont have alot of selling value ( i put in about 350 into my tippmann but i can only sell it for like 200) i would stay with your normal tippmann for a while and then if u really like the sport get a s,artparts ION its a big jump but its worth it i just recently bought an ion and i love it so thats my suggestion dont upgrade the tippmann too much and save up for another gun
also yes buy used thats the best i dont really trust some sites out there so if ur new to the sport go to ur local field

wow 20 tippman 98's. I say sell all but 3 or 4 (ya know..for when you bring friends) and use that money to buy your gear. I'd stick witht he tippman for a while while you're still learning then wehn you feel confident buy something better like an Smart Parts(SP) ion (sigh..) or a Indina Creek Design(ICD) Promaster.
till then you should buy:
-a halo,Reloader b, or velocity hopper.
- a HPA tank (prefeabally a 45psi 68 cu carbon fiber tank. unless you get alll day air where you're playing then the size doesnt' matter much.)
-Extra pods plus a pack (i reccomend empire or redz packs. though NXE makes nice ones as well
-Paintball pants (saves wear and tear on whatever else you might wear to play in.
-kneepads (volleyball kneepads work just as well as paintball kneepads and are cheaper)
-A GOOD mask (any high end mask, but people will argue till they're blue over which is "better"
-maybe gloves. (protect your hands when you're sliding is about the only good thing i can see gloves doing.
-forearm pads of you'll be doing a lot of diving or playing the snake a lot.
-maybe a jersey, it's not nearly as necessary as pants are though.

sell most of the tippmanns for cash then buy and ion if u really wana get serious about the sport. ull need a high pressure air tank and a fast hopper (halo b). that will cost about 400+basic things like mask.

You see my Girlfriend and I have not been dating long so I actually don't know her father that well. But in time I very well could do something like that... This girl wont be going anywere she is a KEEPER!

What is everyones point of view with protective gear beyond the Goggles and Gloves And Stuff... Is It Cheese or do alot of people wear it?
I personaly have never wore anything too much in all my times being out, The pain is something that does not bother me too much. What does bother me though is worrying about my MIDS! I have only heard stories of those who have taking shots to that Nads and I for sure do not ever want to have to experince that!
I was checking out some stuff for my Girlfriend to wear to help cut down on the hurt factor and that got me thinking about myself. My personal thoughts are that it would help me be more focused on the game and less on worry about my privates and Neck and stuff like that. Not that it really matters but what would be consider something that people are going to poke at you for?

like chest and neck protectors?? They're usually considered not worth the hassel.
Wear like 2 shirts or so and that will not only get bounces (if they're loose fitting) but it also takes some of the sting away. I leave my neck exposed, gets too hot otherwise and it's also a very rare shot.
Look into knee pads and maybe elbow pads.

nah dont get any protectors, except for maybe a cup, although i dont wear one. I guess you start wearing one once you get shot in the nads. I think that knowing that you'll feel the sting when u get shot we'll help keep u quick and on ur toes. Your gf though should probably wear a chest protector for obvious reasons though.

Get a cup for sure.. I've had some wicked bruises and wouldn't want that between my legs. Get a neck protector. My neck protector still isn't good enough.. Get gloves. I use mechanics type. Just go to the local work clothes store and try on pairs till you find some you like. That's about it. I've seen girls play in tank tops before with no breast protection so that's up to her I would say. Also you didn't say what kind of paintball you play. I play woodsball and most people wear long sleeve camo or military camo shirts and pants. They really don't absorb hits much better than regular clothing but they are durable and give you some advantage when not moving. Where I live people play in the winter. Not as many but I played in a few games last winter that had 30 or so people. It was fun to play in the snow!

yes i agree, cup and neck armor should be a standred. my friend got shot in the side of the neck once from pretty far away and it messed him up, dont wanna see that happen to ppl, this old guy at my local field took one in the crotch without a cup and he swears he'll never go near a field again without one , good luck getting going.
