What exactly do they do, and if they are broken, will the gun still work? I found a deal for a Dragun TES with broken detents, but I'm not sure if it will work

they keep you from shooting more than one ball at a time. im not sure what kind of detents the tes has but im sure you can find some for really cheap. if its a good deal and all thats wrong is the detents are broken, i say go for it

They keep balls from roling out of you barrel.

The gun will work but balls can potentially roll out past the breach. Two fixes for this are, tes' will accept some cocker threaded detents, the other fix is with an airsoft bb and a trimmed down pen spring. Both of these fixes are very easy to do and the later of the two is very cost effective. The other thing is it looks like you already own a spider, a tes will not be that much of an improvement over that, your money is better spent buying a new gun such as an ion promaster or old style matrix.

I only have ~$150 currently to spare for a new gun since my spyder broke (striker rusted over for some unknown reason, and I don't think it's worth replacing) and I'm currently looking for a job so I can get a nicer gun.

Is the gun you are replacing a mech spyder or is it an electro? If the striker rusted over it is possible to buy a replacement for it for a relatively low price. If you do have a mech spyder don't waste your money buying a new striker and instead buy a used or refurbished spyder imagine for around $60 and instead save that 90 or so dollars for an elecropneumatic.
The other thing is that the tes is some what of touch and go gun. In my experiance it either shot great or not at all and require alot of meitinace as far as an stbb goes. The thing that i'm saying your better off buying somthing that has replacement parts readily availible and is reliable.

the TES has plenty of replacement parts, you just have to know what brands it's interchangeable with

but for the most part, Spyder parts are interchangeable, cuz the TES is a Spyder clone
