what gun to get
Hi, I am a new to the sport and was wondering what type of gun I should get?
I was looking at the guns at walmart for 30-40 dollars and was wondering if these are good guns? And if they aren't then coud you recommend a good gun around 75 dollars.
I am going to shoot out in the woods no real tournaments or anything like that might go to the paint ball field a couple times.
thanks

Something like a Spyder Sonix. I'd look for something used if I were you, that somebody could help you with if you needed it.

it depends.. if you're willing to up your price a little bit you could easily find a used spyder imagine for 80 or so... i bought mine for 90 shipped so they're out there! they perform good, are easy to maintain and have a higher ROF than a mech which is most of what you'll find at wal mart.. overall a good strong, quick, reliable marker for a beginner.

just like they said, i would suggest saving up a few extra dollars and getting a spider imagine. they've got an amazingly higher rof and you'll learn some basic skills you wont get with a mech, like walking the trigger. you'll be a lot more pleased with your purchase that way, and you'll hold on to it longer, i guarantee it.
actually - i've gotta question, i've got a few ions i work with and i was thinking, yea i could upgrade the ions to be insane and fun... or for probably about the same price, i could buy a real nice high end marker... do you think i should leave the ions as they are and get a high end marker (finally) or should i expirament with the ions and make some amazing personal ions? just think - start with an ion, that's $200. then you have to get a board to get it to keep up, a reg to make it consistant, a barrel to make it accurate, a trigger to make it smooth, then a clamping feed neck and an asa to make it simple for me.
marker: $200.00
board: $130.00
regulator: $100.00
trigger: $30.00
barrel: $100.00
neck & asa: $70.00
that's not including the cosmetics like the body and the grips, qev's or the bolt... so that's about $630.00 without cosmetics... a new shocker costs $600.00 barrel, neck, asa, trigger, board - all of it... so i wouldn't need to do the cosmetics either, but i'll still always need to tweak it. that's just in my nature... but an ion could be totally personal... either way i'm going to spend about the same, would any of you suggest anything?

Loose everything but the neck and the trigger and get out and play for a while. You dont need the board, i doubt very seriously your going to be in a position having to have absolute consistency for a good long while. Quit worrying about upgrading and learn how to play properly first.

i probably should've done that in my own thread, sorry - but yea, i've been playing for years, i know how to 'properly' use a marker, i was just pondering that when i was posting on this thread. so you should probably just ignore me... sorry, my mind tends to work in 10 directions at once and if i don't write down what i'm thinking i'll forget it. but back on what the original thread is about:
yea, i've found the imagine on a certain website for only $60 as well. so look around a little bit and you'll find it. (the shipping brought it to about $72 i believe...) that was with the plastic feed neck, battery, barrel, and charger. i wasn't paying enough attention to see if it had a hopper with it, but i would suggest getting an electronic hopper with any marker that shoots over 8 bps. but that way you'll increase your basic skill with an electronic marker, such as walking your trigger and figuring out that one loose wire that'll make your red light come on no matter what battery you put in... lol.
then if you decide to play a lot more you'll have experience with something other than a mechanical marker and you'll have an advantage over all your friends with 98's. yay! (not insulting 98's they're really durable, just they have their draw-backs like all markers, and the imagine has a few advantages in my opinion.) and they pretty much come with everything in case you don't already have anything... all you'll need is a mask, a tank, and some paint!
well good luck on your endeavor, i hope we've helped somewhat!
